I have just blown my 17 year old ds's mind....

He was late this morning so I did his lunch for him. I made a cake yesterday that was iced on the top only, so I cut a slice in half and turned the top bit over so the icing was In the middle and wouldn't get everywhere. He has just texted genuinely amazed at my brilliance. Who knew being supermum was so easy.......Grin

You're feeding your child cake? You'll go to hell for that!

Coffeeandcrochet · 13/11/2018 10:20

I love how it comes as a surprise to teens that parents actually know anything about anything Grin

hmmwhatatodo · 13/11/2018 12:35

Clever!

IAmRubbishAtDIY · 13/11/2018 12:39

Well the you've just blown my mind too Grin.

TBF

halfwitpicker · 13/11/2018 12:40

What kind of cake?

SylviaAndSidney · 13/11/2018 12:52

Honestly don't think it would have occurred to me to do it 😳

Mind blown here too.

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2018 13:15

🤣 Well done BertrandRussell. It’s amazing when we show the young’uns that we do actually have a working brain and might actually know more than them.

PositivelyPERF · 13/11/2018 13:20

I’ve just realised I’ve used ‘actually’ twice in that sentence. Soooo glad my oldest wasn’t looking over my shoulder. Blush

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 13/11/2018 13:21

I do that with the top of a vanilla slice. total game changer

GreenDinosaur · 13/11/2018 13:25

My DM always does that, must be a mum thing. Wink

ZaphodBeeblerox · 13/11/2018 13:37

Aww this reminds me of things my mum used to do when she’d pack me lunch. Small efficiencies that made life so much easier.
How was his assembly Bertrand?

diodon · 13/11/2018 13:37

Wow thats inspired I always hate having to lick all the icing off the cling film

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 13/11/2018 13:42

My triplets are 34y 5m and have never had refined sugar. I feel sorry for your children.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 13/11/2018 13:44

......because no thread involving children's food would be complete without That Post.......

MasterSensei · 13/11/2018 13:48

I do this with cupcakes. Rip half the cake off and stick it on top of the icing. That way you get icing and cake with every bite

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2018 13:48

"How was his assembly Bertrand?"

It was fine- a couple of teachers were wearing white too-and it led to a long class discussion that meant they missed a whole lesson on Death of a Salesman.Grin

Johnny Smile

I'd never thought of this either - brilliant!

Etino · 13/11/2018 13:49

My mind’s blown Wink
how did I get to 50 and not know?!

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 13/11/2018 14:09

My mum still has a video player and some tapes we made when I was young. In one I'm rapping along to The Fugees and I know all the words and keep good rhythm etc. My kids thought it was part amazing and part cringe.Grin

BonfireOfTheVanities4 · 13/11/2018 14:12

Bit like cutting unbread shaped slices into four with a cross so you can turn the corners out and get a bit in each bite of the sandwich

Am I the only one who needs a diagram for this one? Confused

sueelleker · 13/11/2018 14:19

My Mum used to do that with iced finger buns-cut them open, butter the bottom piece and put the top back on icing side down.
