Light-hearted: Don't you just LOVE some names?

Taking a break from work...how cool is 'Kashuo Ishiguro' especially with 'Sir' Prefix Grin

Always thought 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel' was quite something. Almost as if there will be no room big enough to fit his entire persona. Why hasn't this name ever appeared in the baby names section, they're always looking for something unique Wink

What other names do you know that just make you sit back and think WOW! (in a good way not in a 'Chardonaye' kind of way ifyswim).

Idris Elba, as cool as him 😍

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 19/09/2018 19:14

Brunel got his name as he was the child of Marc Isambard Brunel and Sophie Kingdom. Probably wasn't that unusual in his day.

MadamesNet · 19/09/2018 19:21

I agree about Idris Elba too, something about the way it rolls off like velvet.

I imagine the ff. scenarios:

'You will be seen by Dr Isambard, the specialist' - You know you're onto a winner!
'The case will be presided over by Judge Ishiguro' - better get your story straight.

Its been a long day Grin.

Evelyn Waugh. Just sounds so decadent.

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 19/09/2018 19:31

Agree with Evelyn Waugh, especially as he married another Evelyn. Known everywhere as Mr and Mrs Evelyn!

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 19/09/2018 19:33

Boutros Boutros-Ghali Grin

MadamesNet · 19/09/2018 19:36

BBC reporter Damien Grammaticus

MadamesNet · 19/09/2018 19:40

That reminds me of 'Tomasz Schafernaker'Grin, he certainly lives up to his name.

Travers Christmas Humphrey

Some years ago there was a vicar at a local church called Ravi Holy (which I think was based on his original and more traditional family name, but he deliberately chose that 'working' name as a bit of a joke). Actually he was quite inspirational, based on the few services I attended which were presided over by him. Very nice man too!

I also recall a gynaecologist (not mine) who also had an unusual name - but I can't remember it right now.

okeydokeygirl · 19/09/2018 19:55

Nina Nannar. She is a journalist and used to be on BBC radio and TV news. It always made me slightly giggle which was sometimes inappropriate when she was reporting on something horrific. Have not heard her for a while. I just love the sound of it.

MadamesNet · 19/09/2018 19:59

Definitely loving Ravi Holy. How creative!

There's seems to be a pattern of cool names at the BBC now....following on from Nina, I always thought 'Naga Munchetty' sounded cool too.
so we now have 4 very cool BBC names.

And Edward Woodwood. I can't stop saying it now it is in my head.

Elderflower14 · 19/09/2018 20:01

KindergartenKop · 19/09/2018 20:01

Helia Ebrahimi. It's such a beautiful name!

KindergartenKop · 19/09/2018 20:03

@okeydokeygirl -Edward Woodward is the sound it makes if you fart in the bath!

Carolwithane · 19/09/2018 20:03

BBC Scotland had Shareen Nanjiani - tho it soon became rhyming slang.......Grin

MaterialReality · 19/09/2018 20:03

I really like Ban Ki-moon.

prettyblue · 19/09/2018 20:04

Have you ever taken the Ds out of Edward Woodward?

The broadcaster Femi Oke has a cool name.

okeydokeygirl · 19/09/2018 20:04

And Zsa Zsa Gabor. I would LOVE to have a name like that. But would have to smoke cigarettes in a holder and call everyone 'darliknk.'

Bindon Blood Stoney
An Irish engineer who designed Dublin Port and the banks of the River Liffey in the late 1880s

TheLastMermaid · 19/09/2018 20:07

I couldn't believe Elon Musk was a real name fir a while - it sounds like a character from a Superman adventure.

For rolling off the tongue loveliness, I enjoy saying Isabella Rosselini.

MadamesNet · 19/09/2018 20:07

'Helia' is really beautiful and the surname very unusual. If i had a DD, i'd steal that. Calling all baby namers hunters???

@Okey - can you try saying 'Edward Woodward, Woodward Edward' several times over without missing? Wink
