New baby essentials

My best friend is due her first baby early next year after years of ivf treatment, shes just out of the danger zone and I'm so excited and happy for her that I've had the idea to put together a toy box filled with stuff for when she's had the baby, but I'm stumped as to what to put in as it's been a long-time since I've had babies, so any ideas would be great.

dummies, booties, a stuffed animal, baby soap, baby powder, a baby book, some nappies all make a lovely gift. you could put them all in a white wicker basket.

all the best to you and your friend x

I always think baby stuff is quite a personal choice, but that said, things that I would have like in a hamper would be;

  • mini sizes of toiletries like Childs Farm, Weleda, Burts Bees, Organic Babies etc. That way, you can try them all out too see which you like best
  • hooded towels
  • face cloths (5 years on we still use our 'baby' face cloths on a daily basis
  • mum toiletries (I used a lot of hand cream, chapstick and Lansinoh)
  • some nice baby books (black and white ones, and the mini books are great for little hands)
  • muslins (I had nice M&S ones which were great)
  • selfishly, food delivery would be awesome!!!

Such a kind gift to think about doing 🙂

Muslins, a hooded bath towel, some hand cream (for her, you wash your hands a lot when you’re changing loads of nappies!), some lansinoh...

Tough one though as it’s entirely subjective! For example we didn’t use dummies, baby booties or baby powder.

I personalise toyboxes so my idea was to make one for her so it would be a nice gesture and a keepsake at the same time.

I bought a few bits already and those are great ideas, thank you sleep

Lovejy idea.
I never used baby powder or booties and am fussy with lotions due to sensitive skin.
Wipes, Vaseline, bottle of calpol, thermometer , Muslin cloths, bibs, baby gros , vests, proper winter hats that fit, socks, soft sponges are some ideas.
Baby gros and vests would be good to get as I found that ppl always buy lovely cute outfits that are never worn!
Just had to go and buy a few packets of both recently even though my 5 month old has a ridiculous amount of clothes!

Pukka make two herbal teas for mothers. One is for pregnancy and one is for breastfeeding.
A travel changing mat is handy.

Great suggestions, I've brought 4 packs of vests and babygros, 2 each of new born and 2 each of 3-6 months.

I've said I would by the practical stuff, thermometer, monitor those sorts of things, I've also been looking at a gro egg are they worth it?

Some monitors come with thermometer so she may not need a gro egg. The most useful things we were given were nipple cream, metanium, biscuits/ easy to grab snacks.

I'd also have appreciated a bravissimo voucher, nursing bras are expensive.

Soiree · 18/09/2018 16:37

I agree about not buying outfits, I've only used vests and baby grows, all the cute outfits aren't really used.

SleepWarrior · 18/09/2018 16:41

Giant muslins
Water wipes for the early days

Sock ons are great, stop them pulling their socks off all the time.

SoloD · 19/09/2018 09:21

I think some pampering things for mum are a really nice gift, all the focus is on the baby, but it's a relief to get back to normal after being quite hot and sweaty.

We had all the essentials already, but some cute stuff would be nice. I love Funky Giraffe bibs to dress up my child.

I got my sister a panda outfit for her new baby, because she always wanted to cuddle a panda. So something personal to that person is always going to go down well.
