It's grim Sad

Have they lowered the sugar?

MongerTruffle · 17/08/2018 20:45

~It's Brexit.~

The manufacturers know from experience that consumers don't react well to price increases, so they use cheaper ingredients and reduce sizes.

Bubbaduck · 17/08/2018 20:45

Palm oil. Sad

endofthelinefinally · 17/08/2018 20:47

British companies being taken over by American companies.
Palm oil.
Cheap ingredients.
British chocolate used to be a treat.
I don't bother buying it any more.Sad

Junglefowl · 17/08/2018 20:49

I agree, I can no longer find any that I like so have stopped eating it

LuxuryWoman2018 · 17/08/2018 20:51

I bought a galaxy caramel today, one bite and binned it was so greasy and unbearably sweet. Last week I had a Yorkie bar and it was grim - again way too sweet.

They taste so cheap and nasty now

Pippylou · 17/08/2018 20:53

Aldi or Lidl for chocolate.

inquiquotiokixul · 17/08/2018 21:01

It's modern capitalism. The point of any activity is to maximise profit rather than actually provide the thing. The thing being bought/sold is less important than the amount of money being made. You can best maximise money made by making a terrible cheap product and selling into the mass market.

Only small companies that aren't striving to dominate the market make better quality products which seem outrageously expensive only because our understanding of the price of chocolate has been unreasonably skewed by the marketing of the nasty stuff.

INeedNewShoes · 17/08/2018 21:03

Yep, they're bulking out Galaxy, Cadbury and the likes with palm oils/fat, vegetable stuff and nut oils (sal etc.).

I eat Divine chocolate which I like but costs a lot more so I only have a bar a couple of times a week rather than one a day, which is probably a good thing Grin

Septima · 17/08/2018 21:04

Try to buy from small makers who actually care about providing a decent product. It may be more expensive, but that reflects the true cost of providing a proper chocolate, rather than the palm oil shite.

MsHomeSlice · 17/08/2018 21:08

i bought some forrin chocolate in amsterdam and it was lovely...nice snap, melt in the mouth, not waxy goo that seems to get stuck in my teeth!

I never liked cadbury, but i did like galaxy and ripple....tbh I usually only buy lindt, or ritter , or stuff from aldi and lidl these days.

washewihersen · 17/08/2018 21:08

Isn't palm oil to blame for deforestation in South America?

Corneliusmurphy · 17/08/2018 21:09

Sugary wax was the flavour of last dairy milk bar I will ever eat, galaxy and chocolate orange are the same, even the texture is wrong.

I’ve given up sugar altogether recently and am not remotely tempted (probably a good thing tbf!)

Branleuse · 17/08/2018 21:10

I think lindt is still the same, but most chocolate in the uk has gone to shit. Its depressing.

HopeClearwater · 17/08/2018 21:10

Palm oil, as pp have said.

Cheap and nasty, shareholders like the profits though and loads of people don’t care as long as it tastes sweet and fatty Sad

SleepIsNeeded · 17/08/2018 21:18

I bought some Waitrose Belgium milk chocolate the other day. It made my throat sting/burn just like the awful chocolate I ate when I was on holiday in America. It's a shame, I've never been a chocolate snob but now my house is turning into an independent & luxury chocolate only kind of house Confused

confusednorthner · 17/08/2018 21:22

Slightly off topic but gave in to the big box of coco pops on offer in Tesco and what on earth have they don't to them?!? Why didn't I notice the new improved sign before I bought them😕

Branleuse · 17/08/2018 21:23

Even green and blacks didnt taste the same

PodgeBod · 17/08/2018 21:24

I bought some dairy milk caramel the other day. I haven't really liked it since the recipe change a few years ago but I had a sudden craving. Omg they've made it even worse. The texture was awful. It was crumbly. It was nothing like chocolate at all, and I'm really not a fussy person! Never again.

LeavingTheSandBehind · 17/08/2018 21:24

Totally agree, waxy and gross these days. I have actually started having a yoghurt for that sweet/creamy hit or another glass of champagne!

ChocAuVin · 17/08/2018 21:26

This is a constant source of sadness to me. Cadbury is inedible: plasticine texture with a mouthfeel that is somehow powdery, yet oily at the same time and both Cadbury and Galaxy are impossibly sweet.

Thorntons is also grim.

SleepIsNeeded · 17/08/2018 21:27

@Branleuse Green & Blacks were bought by Cadbury's a while back so it's no surprise if they've began messing with it

It's all shit. Even Maltesers!!

I bought coco pops the other day too and totally get the disappointment. They've cut out all the sugar so now they're suitable for kids. They need to make an adult 'i can make my own decision about obesity and sugar addiction' version.....

Do Aldi and Lidl chocolate have palm oil in them?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/08/2018 21:28

Palm oil with some extra sugar.

Most chocolate is inedible these days.

slippermaiden · 17/08/2018 21:30

Try green and blacks, it tastes heavenly ❤️
