Gift ideas for being away from home at Christmas

We are going away this Christmas to be nearer to family, so can't do the usual mountain of tat full stockings plus gifts under the tree. Plus, I think DD(16) is probably a bit old for that Grin. So, I am trying to come up with an alternative plan. Not least as we are travelling via train and as I am a wheelchair user, luggage has to be really minimal.

I think she would be more than happy with cold hard cash, but I would like to try and be a bit more inventive. I was thinking of doing 16 numbered gifts, mainly as she is desperate to see the musical Six so will be getting her tickets for that. I also have managed to get the tickets for both parts of Harry Potter. So that is numbers 1 and 6 covered, but what about the rest? Budget is around £500 for everything, £100 of that has already gone on tickets, so have £400 left.

She loves musical theatre, classics, sailing etc.

If you decided you wanted to do stocking presents, you could always post them/have them delivered to your family, rather than transporting them yourself.
I'm intrigued to know what the "etc" refers to after you've listed her interests as musical theatre, classics and sailing! I can't imagine what follows on from that list! She does sound like she has plenty of hobbies so I'm sure you won't be short of ideas nearer the time.
Also, I don't understand the link between Harry Potter and the number one, or indeed why numbered presents when it's for Christmas and not her birthday.
I am impressed though, that you are so organised as to be planning Christmas presents now.
Sorry, this no help at all, I know.

Maybe get her personalized items, like a t-shirt with her favorite quote printed on it or a printable calendar with pictures of her favorite artists or scenes from the musical shows she likes. Might be a special edition of a book she particularly loves or tickets to shows that will take place around that time. Again, if she likes Harry Potter then think of items like jewelry or throw blankets that are HP-themed, Etsy has plenty of those, from planners to socks- www.etsy.com/search?q=Harry+Potter
