Do you wrap presents now and put them under the tree or wait until Christmas eve?

I have always wanted to have a Christmas Tree surrounded by Christmas presents but at my parents house we never brought them out until Christmas morning and then it was all over so quickly. This will be the first Christmas as a parent so I figure that after this year (he'll be just under 4 months old) I won't be able to do it for many years as kids can be sneaky and he'd probably find a way into opening them all before Christmas once he's mobile. Would it be weird to just do it for one year? 🤣🤣

@Christmas3143
Family members presents obviously 🤦♀️
Christmas3143 · 05/12/2021 17:29
I would like to but in our house Presents are wrapped but they don't go under tree until Christmas Eve. My kids have no self control (they have sen and would probably just open them) plus there is no room presents under tree for weeks before the day. Sometimes I have put family members under there a few days before!

I wait until Christmas Eve night, unless they're presents from friends/family members - DD thinks Santa brings the presents so I'm sure she'd be a bit if I wrapped them all and put them under the tree before.
Plus she's a nosy so and so.

Gifts from family/friends go under the tree and we put out our Gifts in sacks etc on xmas eve x
JustLikea · 05/12/2021 11:57
I might for the first time ever just wrap up some empty boxes to look festive under our tree as we're away over Christmas. I was watching the how to decorate a Christmas tree 🎄 tv show last night whilst I decorated mine and thought it looked like a cute idea. My DC are teens and DD would love the idea of it

I have always put presents under the tree as we received them and some I'd wrapped. It was how my DM did it. We never tried to open them as children and my DC have never tried to open them in advance. So you don't necessarily have to do it for only one year!

As most of my presents are delivered throughout December we wrap a lot in advance but once they're delivered I put them under tree as they're wrapped. You can't see our tree from the road though. If yours can it's better to put them out Christmas Eve.

Christmas Eve so burglars aren't tempted. Also gives me extra time to actually wrap the presents once I finish work!
TheChosenTwo · 05/12/2021 10:18
Just to add, we have a real tree and aren’t getting it until next weekend so they don’t have weeks and weeks of poking and prodding!
TheChosenTwo · 05/12/2021 10:17
They go under the tree as and when they’re wrapped, presents for us and ones to go elsewhere. I don’t mind them picking them up and looking, poking, shaking etc, it’s part of the fun in the lead up to Christmas, the anticipation, the guessing. They’ve never opened anything or wrecked stuff.
Not all of them though, I keep some back so it looks extra exciting when they come down on Christmas Day. Father Christmas only brings stockings here, not presents under the tree. Their stockings (actually sacks) are left on their beds or outside their rooms (teenagers).
I also hate seeing the tree with no presents underneath, it looks so bare and sad

I gradually put them under the tree. The ones for the kids might not be labelled so they couldn't guess too much. I don't get the (real) tree till around the 19th or 20th though so it doesn't drop all its needles.

As a child my family put any gifts we got from friends and extendedm family under the tree. It was exciting seeing the pile of presents get bigger and bigger as we got nearer to Christmas. Santa presents and those from my parents didn't appear until Christmas morning. I did the same last year for my 1 year old but so far this year I've put all presents away. Mostly because as a 2 year old DS is faster and smarter than last year, and loves opening presents. Also, we have a smaller living room and tree so there isn't much space for presents.
SaveWaterDrinkGin · 05/12/2021 02:43
Gifts to give to others go under the tree as they are wrapped. Also if people send gifts for the DC they are placed under the tree. It looks so Christmassy! Gifts from Father Christmas appear on Christmas Eve.
newtothis1990 · 05/12/2021 02:38
they go right under the tree after wrapping for me. as a family, we have always done it this way.

Christmas Eve or morning. We don't have young children and have a cat that likes to chew paper!!
Explosivefarts · 05/12/2021 00:57
Always Christmas Eve here . Except for presents they receive off family and friends those go under the tree as and when we get them .
PrincessConsuela12 · 05/12/2021 00:20
I've always put them under the tree before Christmas Eve but I have a very inquisitive toddler now so I'm going to wrap some empty boxes so it doesn't look so bare
HaaaaaveyoumetTed · 04/12/2021 22:35
Gifts we are given (e.g. from relatives or friends) go under the tree when they are given to us.
Gifts from Father Christmas only appear on Christmas Eve.
Cosywosy · 04/12/2021 22:26
Presents from Santa go on the sofa on Christmas Eve and aren't wrapped. Presents to/from us are wrapped and under the tree as I wrap them.
escapingthecity · 04/12/2021 22:07
@mam0918 the only presents Santa brings in our house are stockings. And I wish we didn't have to attribute those to him.
ElfontheShelfisLookingatYou · 04/12/2021 21:51
I've always put a few presents from us under the tree in case he can't make it...
Diversion · 04/12/2021 21:39
When our children were little, the presents did not appear under the tree until Christmas morning and still don't even though they no longer live with us (apart from the youngest). Sibling presents, presents to and from my husband and family presents go under the tree until they arrive. Often disturbed by our cat who loves the bows and ribbons.
escapingthecity · 04/12/2021 21:20
I've started wrapping them but keep them hidden in the cupboard. No way DS would leave them untouched if we put them out now!
Gatehouse77 · 04/12/2021 21:16
We put our tree up on Christmas Eve so can’t be done before. When the children were young we put presents out after they’d gone to bed but they’d hang their stockings up. Because we spread presents out over a few days to stop them getting overwhelmed and give them time to play with something new before the next one was thrust into their hands we’d do it daily - kept the ‘magic’ going longer 🎅
As they got older any presents we received in advance would go under Christmas Eve but we’ve stuck to doing ours late night.
The kids have all said they loved coming down Christmas morning and seeing the presents laid out.
