Some people might remember I posted 2 or 3 years ago about the 'Christmas Breakfast' I do for my DC on 1st December. I got blasted by some posters and one poster branded it 'Plastic tat mentality' - which still makes me laugh every year! I'm still sticking to our tradition and have just got things ready.
I decorate the table and set the DC's places with their Christmas plate. I prop their advent calendar up at their place. I make something Christmassy for breakfast like star shaped toast or tree shaped crumpets. This year I am doing Snowman pancakes! They also have a jingle bell pen each. Can't wait to see their faces in the morning! Christmas music will be playing as they come down the stairs!

I can't get my kids to eat a breakfast on Christmas day. They're too excited and full of the sweets and chocolates from their stockings. I feel like doing it on the 1st marks the start of the Christmas excitement for us.

There are plenty of cultures around the world where Christmas/present things happen in early December. There are also all sorts of people who don't celebrate Christmas at all and live by a completely different calendar of celebrations. This weird prescriptive nagging about what days you are and aren't allowed to do things, how long it may last for, and what particular traditions you choose to incorporate (God forbid you do something that wasn't a "thing" in that person's part of the world in the 70s!) Is very tedious and narrow minded. I'm so fed up of it.
I don't live in the UK and they do technically celebrate Christmas in this country, albeit in a very different way to how they do it the UK. I don't go around telling them all that they're doing it wrong, because I'm not a wanker. They don't come into my house and sneer at my decorations being up from December 1st. One year we invited a few people over for Christmas dinner. We'd just moved here and felt a bit homesick for a British Christmas, so we did the traditional turkey roast. Our guests asked lots of questions about what things were. One of them couldn't stomach the turkey and cranberry sauce lol, but wolfed down the roasties. All of them were grateful for the hospitality and we all had a great time.
It's been such a sholit couple of years. Christmas rule book sticklers, please FUCK OFF AND LET PEOPLE ENJOY THEMSELVES. You do not get to decide how an entire nation of people choose to celebrate something.
