Board game advice

I love a good Christmas game, but I’m quite specific, so for Christmas it is always me, my partner, my ex husband and mine and exH son who is 11. (We all get along famously and are a family and spend all birthdays including DP and DH together and are all close). Christmas evening is always spend playing board games and quizzes. Firm favourites are family trivial pursuit as it has adult and kids questions, and articulate because I bought the kids version and adults so again we can all play together.

I would like to find a new game this year, but I would like it to be fun for everyone, not like cluedo or monopoly, but also not that blooming mouth gum shield game, something like articulate where you can sit back in your chair and have fun and is good for adults and kids alike, does anyone have any ideas?

I realise I’m being really picky hahahaha

5 second rule. There’s a junior version but I think an 11yo would be fine with the original.

I was going to say 5 second rule too! Also the Cards Against Humanity Family Edition is funny (and is obviously suitable for kids). We've also enjoyed labyrinth, settlers of catan, ticket to ride and magic maze with dc around that age.

Apples to Apples (or if the dc has gone to bed then cards against humanity).

I know you said not monopoly, but have you seen monopoly cheaters edition?? It is much quicker and hilarious, I'd definitely reccomend! And we sound similar to you in that articulate and trivial pursuit are firm faves!

Sequence. It's a card game but uses a board too. You work in pairs to make sequences with tokens. It's brilliant and all our family like it. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0013SW7YK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabt1_RnPXFbNBNWQ4S?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Forbidden island - you all work together to evacuate off an island before it floods. Not laugh a minute but good bonding fun.

Fluxx can be really silly and has variations (pirate fluxx = talk like a pirate for extra opportunities). It is also stocking sized.

We’re getting Logo Second edition. We had the first one but dds were too young for it. By the looks of the second edition they’ll get it as there’s lots of current brands.

Forgot to add ‘Just One’, it’s a cracking game for a group.
One person chooses a word from a list of five, they don’t see the word.
Everyone else has a mini whiteboard and has to write a one word clue to help them guess the word.
Everyone but the person guessing share the words they’ve written and any duplicates are removed and the person then has to guess the word from the remaining words shown on the whiteboards.
So if the word was chocolate, some clues could be sweet, delicious, Wonka, Cadbury etc etc.
You need to try and choose a word that no one else will, without making it too obscure that they can’t guess, because if two write Cadbury they are removed and the person will not get to see them. Hope that makes sense.

One of the funniest games we have is Telestrations, simple to play and hilarious.
