The “I don’t need anything” husband gift thread

Does anyone else have a DH who is practically impossible to buy for? He doesn’t need anything, doesn’t want anything and I have no clue what to get him.

He doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t like sports. He sounds horrifically boring but he’s not I swear Grin

What are you getting your impossible to buy for DH?

Experience day for something he's interested in.
An intimate weekend away with you.

Lots of silly things that you think will make him smile (DH got a belly button brush one year)
When we first started being 'a couple' I was given as part of my Christmas a plastic sweet dispenser and some M&M's to fill it, he knew I loved M&M's. It sat on my desk at work.

Mine is very hard to buy for. He doesn't really like "stuff", especially hates novelty stuff that ends up taking up space or in landfill, only real hobby is videogames and he tends to buy himself any games or kit he really wants. His birthday is quite close to Christmas too which makes it even worse.

This year he's getting a stunt kite (likes taking our daughter out for walks up big hills on windy days to fly her Paw Patrol kite so thought he might enjoy this). A new dressing gown as his is old and sad. He likes a drink at home on a weekend like a G&T and has a thing for vanilla vodka and so I thought I might see if there was anything interesting in Sainsburys he might fancy.

He likes jumpers Grin so I usually have a hunt in TK Maxx and find him a couple of nice ones.

He's also a massive Father Ted fan and last year I got him a t shirt with one of our favourite quotes from the Hairy Baby website. That went down well - it has loads of cool stuff.

@evilharpy I don’t usually buy clothes at M&S, but popped in to buy my DF a jumper and I am really pleased, the quality and price is great. I’d buy for DH if he let me buy him clothes

So far for mine, I've bought

Crocs (he loves them and has a knockoff pair).
Jumper from burton.

Will probably buy some American sweets and some beers as well.

I try to buy things he needs rather than what he wants because like everyone else has said he doesn't want anything!!!

Over the years I've given my DH - a pencil sketch of the dog (commissioned from artist, not my own efforts, although...), a personalised Emma Bridgewater mug, a really good tweed wash bag, various cashmere jumpers, good quality socks (surprisingly welcome gift), beard oil/face moisturiser (vested interest), Celtic & Co house boots, coffee, pinboard made up of a year's pics from my phone, rugby tickets, Scotland rugby shirt, lounging around pants, key ring with family initials.

Upgrade of what he already likes is a great starting point.

Oohhh and socks - I got DH a pair with a picture of him and his cat on and he loves them (www.supersocks.co.uk/products/couples-face-mash-socks?)

And I'm thinking of getting him a felt cat (www.facebook.com/Siansfurryfelts) for his birthday.

DH said “really, you haven’t bought anything?” If you can't be bothered to think of anything you want, you shouldn't be surprised if that's what you get! It's very lazy to expect someone else to do all your thinking for you.

Jesus wept. That’s completely bonkers. Present giving is all about being thoughtful and picking up clues. Half the fun of giving a present is thinking about it and getting it right when the recipient isn’t expecting it. The best presents are surprises. I got a piece of original art for my birthday, best present ever.

@BarbaraofSeville

I instigate a ban on buying non essential items for himself from basically October onwards grin. Anything he wants has to go on a list for me/relatives

That's mad. What if the things he wants sell out or go up in price?

Just let him buy what he wants when he wants and get him a chocolate orange/bottle of spirits or whatever, rather than going through such a ridiculous charade so you can pretend that you or another relative bought him X, Y or Z 'for Christmas'.

Never had a problem with things selling out, just buy things as and when and keep them for Christmas. He doesn't want 'whatever' as we have enough stuff and alcohol. I'd much rather have something I actually want than random crap. Plus he does get some things he doesn't know about.

Brilliant, thanks @Trumpton - a bargain atm as well! And @evilharpy you are also a genius- he will love a Father Ted tshirt! Think Christmas will be pretty much courtesy of this thread this year 😀

I've got one like this! Every year I renew his Private Eye subscription and get him something for under the tree, edibles go down well. Last year I got him a selection of grazing items from Fortnum & Mason, nuts, olives, relish, chocolates etc. I'll probably do the same this year with a different selection.

@JinglesWish happy to be of service! It's very easy to get the hang of, I have taught it to non-game-players in just a few minutes.

NB 7Wonders Duel is a different game (a 2 player game) than 7Wonders, which is the version for 3-7 players.

I do find my DH hard to buy for but I always massively regret asking him for ideas because they are always so dull. It’s his birthday coming up and he’s asked for a water bottle for his bike. If it was any other time of year he’d just go and buy a water bottle but because it’s coinciding with his birthday he’s calling it a ‘present’. One year he asked for some rigging rope. It’s not a gift!

So I’m not going to ask what he’d like for Christmas! At the moment I’m looking at the website //www.cycleforgood.com...they do gifts from recycled inner tubes which a cycling fan might appreciate. A bottle of a whisky is a staple - I might look into a subscription this year. I’m liking the idea of a weather station - he’s quite into his water sports which are pretty weather-dependent so that’s a good suggestion. Books always go down well too. And yes to upgrading every day things - I bought a nice pen the other year and he loved it so much he went and bought himself the matching pencil!

I'm going to steal this line!

My DH must be worse than all of yours put together. He'd dislike every suggestion on here, apart from, maybe, beers. He actively dislikes getting clothes or practical gifts. I can't 'upgrade' on any of his stuff, because he isn't interested in any of it much in the first place. We're both getting new phones soon and he's not bothered about tech at all.

Fuckit, he's getting beer and that's it Grin

A really unexpected hit for my DH was a selfie stick Grin His face was a picture when he opened it but it turns into a tripod and has a Bluetooth remote control. He mostly uses it to take pictures of him and the kids when they're climbing and he's belaying.

My dh is the same.
Buys himself what he wants or needs whenever the thought occurs to him and a chronic dislike for any tat (we are both the same in every way!).
This year dd suggested getting him a record player and some vinyl which isn’t a bad idea, he does harp on about his regret at giving it all away years ago.
