The “I don’t need anything” husband gift thread
LongPauseNoAnswer · 03/10/2020 20:10
Does anyone else have a DH who is practically impossible to buy for? He doesn’t need anything, doesn’t want anything and I have no clue what to get him.
He doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t like sports. He sounds horrifically boring but he’s not I swear
What are you getting your impossible to buy for DH?
GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 03/10/2020 20:17
Mine's getting a very classy keyring which will incorporate a family joke.
Honestly, anything he wants, he buys. He doesn't really read physical books any more. He has limited interest in clothes. We have a vast stash of booze.
Every bloody Christmas and birthday it's the same.
LongPauseNoAnswer · 03/10/2020 20:20
Mine is the same @GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman I’ve told him to tell me what he’s thinking about buying and putting a ban on shopping until Christmas. All I’ve got so far “I was thinking about a Kindle”. It’s a start I suppose!!
Ninkanink · 03/10/2020 20:20
I once heard the advice that many men appreciate an upgrade on their favourite ‘boring’ things - so, a new pair of sheepskin slippers if you live in an old draughty house, fluffy new towels, pyjamas & bathrobe, 5 x quality tee shirts, a cashmere scarf, a hunter’s hat if you live in a cold area, etc etc.
Seemed a good suggestion to me.
Otherwise, a beer/ale subscription would have been my next suggestion, but he doesn’t drink sooo... a curry box subscription? Or maybe a Korean/Japanese (or other) cooking ingredients box from souschef to try out some new cuisines at home. Perhaps a lock breaking set or maybe build-a-radio? My DH loved the Lego sopwith camel model I got him one year.
Otherwise why not join Reastie’s bargain threads (currently on no.10) as there are always lots of great ideas on there.
MahMahMahMahCorona · 03/10/2020 20:22
Do you enjoy exploring the area around you? I bought a bespoke (to our postcode) OS Map and got a local framer to frame it for me. Voilà! Downstairs loo wall hanging which we can all benefit from....
zigzagbetty · 03/10/2020 20:22
Mine is getting a classic car magazine subscription and beer from DD. He just has no interest in any presents. I will probably get him some new clothes and discreetly dispose of some old tatty favourites!
XiCi · 03/10/2020 20:23
Usually centres around something really nice to wear - jacket, shirt, jeans, trainers. Then also gig tickets, theatre tickets, weekends away - which will obviously be harder in these times
ColleagueFromMars · 03/10/2020 20:23
Watching, hopelessly, in case this inspires anything for my father...
LongPauseNoAnswer · 03/10/2020 20:25
Good suggestions @, that’s a good one about the upgrade. He Ioves Japanese food so maybe a sushi making course or something.
Yeah @MahMahMahMahCorona he’s a mountain hiker. I’m thinking a nice compass or an upgrade on the walking sticks he has.
Great ideas, thanks!!
Toilenstripes · 03/10/2020 20:26
I just upgrade DH’s favourite items on rotation. This year it will be a new dressing gown.
LongPauseNoAnswer · 03/10/2020 20:26
That was supposed to be to @Ninkanink, no idea where your username went
PenOrPencil · 03/10/2020 20:28
My dh is exactly the same, with the added fun of a birthday close to Christmas.
He will be working from home for the foreseeable future, so he will probably be getting some nice comfy clothes.
FippertyGibbett · 03/10/2020 20:42
I’m thinking of a bean to cup coffee machine, but watching this thread with interest 🧐
LongPauseNoAnswer · 03/10/2020 20:56
That was one of his lockdown purchases @FippertyGibbett which would have made a brilliant gift!
mummyof2boys30 · 03/10/2020 20:58
Food flask for up mountains, new rucksack, warm winter hat/gloves, climbing socks
MahMahMahMahCorona · 03/10/2020 20:59
I also took the initiative and got him a Soda Stream after a resoundingly successful thread on here a few days ago.. I'm not entirely sure he's ever realised just how much he needs one.

Usually DH buys his county cricket club membership, and beer at lunchtime and from trip there and back, but obviously this season never happened so he's already paid for next year so I'm going to have but him something. I'm thinking about some band tshirts, but haven't a clue what else.
MsAwesomeDragon · 03/10/2020 21:06
Dh got an upgraded computer chair for his birthday. He now looks like he's in command of a star ship, but he's very, very comfortable in it. He spends a lot of time at his computer, more than ever now he's wfh for the foreseeable, so it was worth upgrading that (and it's not something he would buy for himself).
At Christmas he normally gets clothes. As in, boring everyday clothes like jeans, t-shirts, jogging bottoms, socks, etc. He likes that, so he never has to buy his own clothes, ever, as his Christmas stash lasts all year. I often buy him shoes/boots as well, but this year he doesn't need them as he isn't walking anywhere near as much now he's wfh.
RockingMyFiftiesNot · 03/10/2020 21:07
Always lovely to have new, good quality walking socks.
Does he have a snood? Great for walking as a scarf/hat/sweat band, even a face covering.
Book of hiking routes.
If you have an outdoors
bathorshower · 03/10/2020 21:12
Books on maps - these are definitely better in hard copy than digital
Nice tools (!) - as others have suggested, an upgrade on what we have already
Decent cooking kit (there's always something I he needs, and even if I use it more than him, he'll benefit from the results)
Wherearefoxssocks · 03/10/2020 22:17
What about one of those walking poles you can attach a camera to, so it doubles as a tripod?
Voiceofreason92 · 03/10/2020 23:02
Very random but for his birthday, i bought my husband a Pizza Oven that sits on top of your BBQ. He absolutely loved it- he used it a lot over the summer
Trumpton · 04/10/2020 01:55
DH is having a print of our house . We are having major repair work done and new rendering . It will look amazing but has been a long haul .
Other years ....
Celtic and Co slippers
Local history books
Aero press coffee maker
Wake up light
Beautiful leather cover for iPad
Swiss railway watch
Voucher for motor trike tour
KitchenAid kettle with temp control
Really good coffee grinder
Travel bag ( not such a good idea this year)
Long handled loppers
But ,yes, I agree . Find something he likes and upgrade it !
He got me wireless headphones last year . I love them .
LongPauseNoAnswer · 04/10/2020 06:03
Loads of great ideas thanks!!
GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 04/10/2020 08:06
I got mine a whisky subscription one year. It was quite a hit but he's trying to drink less...
The ingredients subscription is a great idea. He likes cooking interesting food. That might be for his birthday (bloody January - how thoughtless!)
Sniv · 04/10/2020 08:29
That's a perfect idea for my Dad, thank you! I had no idea they existed.
