How do you explain not having a elf?
ItsJustASimpleLine · 01/12/2018 08:33
Really don't want to have to do elf on the shelf. Can anyone help with and explanation for why we don't have one that DD would believe??
allthegoodusernameshavegone · 01/12/2018 08:35
Why do you need to explain why you don’t have one?
Dermymc · 01/12/2018 08:37
"because they are shit" should suffice.
Bunnybigears · 01/12/2018 08:37
Has she asked? Ive never done the elf or Christmas Eve boxes and the kids have never asked why. They are not part of our traditions. If she did ask I would probably say that the elves are checking if those children are naughty or nice but you write to Santa yourself to tell him so he doesnt send an elf to your house.
xyzandabc · 01/12/2018 08:37
Some people do it, some people don't. We don't do having an elf in this house.
HeffalumpsDaughter · 01/12/2018 08:37
Everyone has different traditions at Christmas.
ItsJustASimpleLine · 01/12/2018 08:37
Other kids at school will be talking about it so she will wonder why no elf visits her.
blackfadder · 01/12/2018 08:37
They aren't real.
Pascha · 01/12/2018 08:37
We don't want one should work.
Ffsnosexallowed · 01/12/2018 08:38
Because they aren't real??
ImperfectTents · 01/12/2018 08:38
Tell her they are not real and their parents are delusional
ChristianGreysAnatomy · 01/12/2018 08:39
We just don’t! Same way as we don’t do Xmas eve box. Just don’t do it. If your kids moan, tell them that if they have kids of their own they can do it, but you are choosing not to. Then change the topic!
Chasingsquirrels · 01/12/2018 08:39
Would this help?
BertramKibbler · 01/12/2018 08:39
Mummy’s allergic, we don’t want her sneezing all December

They aren't real

Different families do different things.... some people have been conned in to more commercial bs than we have....
ItsJustASimpleLine · 01/12/2018 08:41
She's almost 5. I want to keep the magic alive for her but as pp say above it's a commitment I don't want. She may feel left out with her friends discussing theirs at school.
LizzieSiddal · 01/12/2018 08:41
id day that every family has their own traditions and our doesn’t have elves. Then remind her of some of the lovely things you’re family has and that you’ll be just sticking to them xx
topcat2014 · 01/12/2018 08:42
The same reason we don't all rush into town on "black friday"
LizzieSiddal · 01/12/2018 08:42
Sorry about the kisses, I though I was texting my friend 😂
Boohissmiss · 01/12/2018 08:42
Just curious all those saying to just say they are no real. Would you be so happy for your child to be told the same about Santa? I don’t do one either but I wouldn’t burst another child’s bubble .
LizzieSiddal · 01/12/2018 08:43
Agree Boo. They’d be uproar if children were going around saying “FC isn’t real”
BertramKibbler · 01/12/2018 08:43
It’s not kind to say they’re not real etc. So then when a child talks to yours at school you’re happy for them to ruin another family’s tradition?
DaphneFanshaw · 01/12/2018 08:44
Don’t worry about it, we don’t do it either and my dc haven’t really asked. If they did I would just brush over it or make up a lie / story about something.
stressbucket1 · 01/12/2018 08:45
Maybe tell her that the elves only go to children that Santa needs to keep an eye on. She is so good she doesn't need one 😁
