"Basic but beautiful find…"
Run by the National Trust, this campsite feels like a hidden gem. It advertises itself as very basic, which it is, with a small temporary toilet and shower block but these were kept very clean when we visited. It is situated right on Coniston Lake and the views are stunning. There are lots of walks nearby through the woods and around the lake. The field is mostly flat but slopes slightly towards the lake. We stayed as two families in tents and one with a towing caravan and all pitched up next to each other. Although fires are not allowed we were able to barbeque and enjoy the beautiful views. Dogs are allowed for a small extra charge. The camping prices themselves are incredible reasonable for the Lake District, but reflect the basic amenities at the campsite.
