"Actioned packed for older children, not so good for little ones…"
We'd heard excellent things about Sandy balls holiday village, so we were slightly disappointed with our experience. Everything was okay, but very little really good, and for the price of even a basic pitch, I was expecting better.
The shower and toilet blocks were clean, if a bit cramped, and the showers were warm, but with the flow of a small watering can. Washing up sinks only managed luke warm water. The big playground was great, the smaller one was good, but both lacked benches for parents. The swimming pool was disappointing, having waited for the best part of an hour and a half to get in, we found out that our DDs could only swim in one half of the cold indoor pool, and the outdoor pool was closed. The softplay was very small, closed for part of our half term stay, and didn't smell good when it was open.
The activities were mostly geared to older children, leaving very little for our 2yo to do that we don't do at home. (Decorating biscuits, or colouring in etc) The alpacas were a definite highlight though, both DDs thought they were brilliant.
Positives included the staff, all of whom were friendly and really helpful. The area is lovely, the walks, the biking trails, the views across the river Avon were all excellent. The on site shop is large, and well stocked. The roads through the site are excellent for scooters or bikes, which are very popular. There's food served on site in the restaurant until reasonably late, handy if your camp meal has gone wrong, or your BBQ won't light.
The site itself is large, and was very busy when we stayed. There's an 11pm noise limit, so lots of children still up and playing loudly, well into the evening. (Both a blessing and a curse!)
I think we would possibly look at going back for another stay once our DDs are a bit older, and can do more of the activities. But with a 2yo and 6yo, the £55 a night it cost for a standard serviced pitch during the school holidays just wasn't worth it.
