Nestled in Cardiff Bay, the St David's Hotel and Spa is the perfect venue for a relaxing break, while still being close to the city centre if you want to get out and about.
We visited before Christmas, and everything was looking lovely and festive, with a huge Christmas tree in the lobby and, best of all, an adorable edible winter alpine scene created by the head chef on display! There's also quite a nautical feel to the place, which being right on the waterfront is nice, with each floor built circularly around the lobby, a bit like a ship.
The Marine Spa has been ranked one of the best in the UK, so our hopes were high, and we were not disappointed. Panoramic views across the bay are lovely enjoyed while doing a few leisurely laps of the decent-sized swimming pool. Next to this are the spa pools, which are really quite something. A 'water corridor' leads to swan-neck fountains and a hydro-therapy area, with lots of spots to settle and chat, or relax on your own.
The sauna is nice and big so plenty of room, and as well as loungers around the pool there's a relaxation area for chilling out when you're not in the water. The gym is also well equipped and again has great views across the bay - perfect for working up an appetite for the sumptuous breakfast offered! Children are allowed to swim between 8-11am and 3-6pm every day.
The rooms in the hotel are very nice - a good size, with everything you need; ours even had a balcony looking over the bay, which would be perfect for summer. There's also a patio area outside the restaurant, which again would be lovely for al fresco dining or drinking in the warmer months. We didn't eat dinner at the restaurant, but the breakfast was very good, with lots of hot and cold options, and attention to detail like skimmed milk available, porridge made to order and vegetarian sausages.
The bay itself has plenty of restaurants if you fancy a stroll, and we walked all the way around and across to Penarth, which is a nice way to stretch your legs. The staff are very friendly and have good local knowledge.
A lovely stay all in all.
