"Amazing Cottage, Location and Activities. Coming back in Summer!…"
Our family of four spent the half term weekend in Pink Cottage New Forest, the cottage proved to be a wonderful base during our weekend. The personalised touches around the house, in the décor, the cupcakes on arrival and the wonderful welcome hamper we received made it feel like our home away from home.
The cottage came with a fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher and washing machine which would have been of great use if we had stayed longer, as having two boys (4 and 5) trekking through the forest is muddy work!
The living room was beautifully decorated, it was also equipped with, blankets, board games, Sky TV (we chose to have a technology free weekend for our boys and there were enough board games and activities to distract them) a sound system and a working fireplace along with all the needed additions to get the fire blazing during the cold evenings. The cottage owner was extremely considerate in putting a security gate around the fireplace given that our boys quite young. This sort of attention to detail in the cottage immediately made the house feel homely, and allowed us to be comfortable knowing that the boys could run around and be safe.
The house is 2 stories with one of the two bathrooms, along with the 3 bedrooms being on the second floor (one double and two single). The master bedroom is not very big but a decent size considering that the cottage is for holiday lets. The two single rooms are of good size also with one being in the converted attic. The stairs leading to the 1st floor and the attic are very steep which we had to be weary of with the boys, but this was brought to our attention in the information pack that was left out for us.
As recommended by our host, we did some cycling and canoeing with the New Forest Activities team. The canoeing despite the weather being very cold, was a great experience and very informative for the boys. The overall canoe trip was very well organised and our instructors were very knowledgeable of the history and wildlife in the area. They were even considerate of the weather bringing along some extra layers and hot chocolate to help us brave the cold. We’ll definitely try and return in the summer to catch a glimpse of the jellyfish!
The cycle was a great way to see Beaulieu, we had 2 bikes with tag-a-longs for the boys. The New Forest Activities centre had a multitude of routes to pick from, organised by length, type of terrain, overall difficulty and experience - they were extremely helpful in picking out a suitable route for us.
Before sending us on our way, the lady at the New Forest Activities Centre made sure we had everything we needed for our cycle, giving us helmets, a map, puncture repair kit (and instructions) along with advising us of noticeable landmarks to look out for to ensure we were on route. Buckenhurst has designated cycle routes which was a lovely way for our boys to experience the forest and see the free roaming wildlife up close. Although the cycle route did take us along some main country roads, the drivers and roaming cows were very accommodating.
Overall, we had lovely stay and would definitely recommend a visit to Pink Cottage to anyone thinking of a short or even extended city break – so much so that we will be looking to return in the summer!
