"Hidden gem for the school holidays…"
We discovered a weeny cottage called Spindrift in Plaidy, East Looe (check out Looe and Polperro Holidays) when looking for a last minute deal in August 2013. It sleeps 2/3 and is literally 10 steps from the beach. The place has an open plan lounge, kitchen, dining area, one bedroom with ensuite and a dressing room suitable for a child as it has a fold down bed. At the front looking at the beach with sea view is a patio with chairs and a parasol. There are lots of other places to stay in Plaidy but its set on a steep hill so look for a property as near to the beach as possible to prevent a hike back to the place you are staying. We spent a fabulous week here just me and my 3 year old son (Dad was busy working!!). The beach has rock pools and is really quiet which is amazing in mid August - there was rarely more than 20 people on it and often less than half that number. You can walk along the cliff path into Looe itself in about 30 minutes (3 year old pace - but easy for even small legs). A car is necessary if you want to explore further afield and to be fair we needed ours to get up the steep hill to the shops at the top. There is a small convenience store, chippy and chinese take away - great if you dont want to cook. We loved it and would recommend this location and this little cottage if you are a small family.
