We stayed last August for 3 weeks at the Mas. Maryese and Yvan the french owners of the Gites at Domain St Martin du Pinand their dogged hard work this year has succeeded in creating 5 beautiful Gites out of derelict winemaking buildings. Maryese and Yvan are new to the hospitality industry but have proved themselves to be natural hosts. Nothing is too much to ask. Their willingness to please is genuine and their ability to make you feel like a special member of their family is unique. They host welcome dinners where local chefs come and cook some delicious meals whilst we drink family made wine and meet other guests. Wine tasting evenings are weekly too. We met 3 different winemakers. The domaine is surrounded by beautiful vineyards and good wine is plentiful and quite inexpensive. We walked and even off road biked to 2 of the vineyards to follow up with some orders.
Our Gite was very tastefully designed, perfect for a family of 4. I visited all the others each differing in its decoration but all created with a modern, contemporary feel keeping in mind a family's need for comfort and practicalities!
The 3 pools are all good. My children spent most of their time in the hot tub and main pool. (Age 4 and 6)
There is a kids club and we were fortunate to be able to leave our children with a very capable english nanny, Catherine. The children played hard, bounced on the trampoline, cooked their own pizza dinners, collected eggs and sometime escapee chickens too! There was also a french nanny to help with the rising numbers of children. I know this year there will be a ponny and bunnies to care for and therefore even more fun for the kids.
Also new this year is a bar for guests to congregate should they wish and also a small shop selling all local produce. The beauty about Mas de Thau is although it is set on an enormous plot it manages to feel very intimate. There is a hub but also space that allows privacy too.
The surrounding areas to Montagnac are stunning. There are many harbour towns with lovely restaurants and markets. There are also so many activities close by for children. We did lots that took just half a day, earning us many lazy afternoons by the pool reading whilst the kids hung out either at kids club, in the grounds or bombing in the the pool. if you want sand castles then head to the lovely beaches in Sete just under 45 mins away.
It is an amazing find and I’m only recommending it out of respect to Maryese and Yvan. Personally I would prefer to keep it all to myself!
