Resort: Les Carroz, Grand Massif
"Four star accommodation with pool at the foot of the slopes…"
Les Carroz is one of the closest resorts to drive to from the UK and we booked Les Chalets de Jouvence through Peak Retreats in a self-drive package. The best aspect of this accommodation is its location at the foot of the slopes yet only a few minutes walk from the village centre. From the ski room you can walk a few paces to put your skis on at the covered magic carpet without having to go up and down any stairs in ski boots. The ski school meeting point is at the top of the magic carpet, next to the gondola. The ski lessons in this resort are 3 hours long which gives parents a bit longer than average to ski on their own in the mornings, whilst the children are having fun in their lessons. We have used the Les Carroz ESF ski school a few times now and the instructors have always been friendly and spoken good English. The local ski area is beautiful with many tree lined runs and it is linked to Flaine for higher altitude skiing. The local ski area is suitable for all levels of skier and there is a choice of a red or blue run back to the resort. One thing to be aware of is that the lowest slopes in Les Carroz are at comparatively low altitude but we have been lucky so far with the snow cover back to the village. If the snow conditions weren't optimal there is always the option of skiing the higher part of the area and taking the gondola back down but we have not yet needed to do this. Our two bedroom apartment at Les Chalets de Jouvence had a spacious living area and was comfortably furnished. The kitchen area was compact but well appointed with top of the range appliances. The residence has a lovely pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, and also a spa. There is also a small gym within the residence and a pool table in reception. We are fairly particular over ski accommodation and think this residence is an ideal base for a family ski holiday.
