Snow Focus Review March 2016
We spent a week at Chalet La Sonnaille in March 2016, and still can't really believe how good it all was. We had never been on this type of holiday before and were not sure exactly what to expect, but we were immediately made to feel at home, and from then on everything really did come up to the high expectations that we had formed from reading previous Mumsnet reviews of holidays at this chalet.
The setting is beautiful, the chalet VERY comfortable, cosy, and extremely well run. For us the highlight, as other reviewers have said, was the care and attention which went into ensuring that the skiing experience and instruction that our nine-year-old received was perfectly tailored to her individual needs. She enjoyed skiing everyday, grew in confidence and expertise and continued to progress through the ESF system, but with individualised tuition from an excellent instructor and superb care and attention to well-being and safety throughout all the time the group were on the mountain. In fact this high standard of care for the children skiing began with getting ready to leave in the morning with the wonderful skiing nanny checking sun protection, carefully fitting boots, goggles, distributing mid morning snacks, essentially ensuring everything was just right, and creating a cheerful, happy atmosphere as she did so, before setting off to take the happy little band to begin their day up on the slopes.
Professionalism and high standards were paramount in every aspect of the childcare at Snow Focus and our little girl had great fun throughout the whole week not just when the children were skiing, but back in the chalet playing with the other children, having children's early tea together, doing exciting activities with the nannies - she loved it, and can't wait to go back next year.
Overall, what made this holiday altogether so special for us was that the team running Snow focus, led by Sue and AT, the resident proprietors, listened to our needs, and then went out of their way to ensure that they thoughtfully arranged things to suit our individual requirements. And this was true of every member of the chalet team. Everything was right, down to the smallest, but nevertheless very significant details. For example, the driver who was waiting to collect us when we arrived at Aigle train station gave us such a smooth and comfortable drive back to the chalet, no throwing us around the alpine hairpin bends, so that our little girl who has a tendency to travel sickness wasn't even starting to feel queasy by the end of the forty-five minute journey - a great bonus for everyone at the start of our holiday!
Individual dietary needs posed no problem for the friendly, skilled and unflappable cook and her assistants, the proprietors were always readily available and approachable, and every request was met with a helpful and positive response. Nothing was too much trouble.
The accommodation at the chalet was comfortable and spacious, and the pleasant, homely, and inviting bedrooms (with lovely views) were equipped with everything you would need - but a word of warning - don't expect boutique hotel slick, they were much more welcoming than that!
Overall, we were very, very impressed by Snow Focus and Chalet La Sonnaille; we had a truly luxurious holiday here; everything tailored to our family's individual needs, in an extremely well-run chalet, with thoughtful, attentive hosts and staff, and with childcare and skiing that is absolutely superb - second to none. (And truthfully, I'm not one of the owners saying this; just a very satisfied customer!!)
