Mumsnetters really rate Lumies, and after giving one a go, you can see why! Although all their bodyclocks, which use light therapy to help you escape being at the mercy of regular buzzing and bleeping in bed, are suitable for anyone to use, this one would make an especially nice gift for a pregnant woman struggling with sleep.
The Body Iris lets you drift off with a sunset and wake up with a sunrise - bliss! And better still, it can be used with aromatherapy oils - there are two different chambers; we tried lemon for the morning and lavender for the evening, which were lovely: invigorating and soothing, respectively.
There is a clock display but this dims to a low level during the sunset, and if you're worried about not waking up, you can choose to have an alarm beep as well. Also quite handy is a security setting, which randomly switches on the light if you're away - although it comes with a travel adaptor, so you'd probably want to take it with you! During sleep it can function as a dim night-light, which I've seen other people say is useful for night feeds once baby comes along. Most of the features are adjustable so you can tailor it to your personal preferences, and there's a remote so you can control it without having to get out bed.
You can certainly notice a difference in energy levels, especially in the morning, and waking up is just a completely different experience. They are also meant to be very effective in treating Seasonal Affective Disorder, which makes sense. A perfect gift for someone (maybe yourself!) who needs treating.
