"Fantastic snack holder to keep any toddler happy…"
When friends have babies I have taken to buying them a really nice keepsake box (the sort that Jo Jo Maman Bebe use for gift wrapping) and filling it with the top products that I have found and loved as a Mum (I have a little boy who is almost 3 and a little girl who is 16 months).
It always feels a funny gift to hand over to a Mum with a tiny little baby (who is used to receiving cute outfits or a cuddly toys), but I always caveat it with “I know you can never imagine your baby being big enough to use any of these things, but trust me in 6 months’ time no one buys you gifts and that is when you really start needing them! Besides, how many more baby gros can you possibly need – no matter how cute they may look in size 0-3 months!).
In this blog I am just going to talk about one of the things that I always include in that box and that is the Nuby iMonster Snack Keeper (http://www.nuby-uk.com/view-product?path=54_102&product_id=763).
Now like most mothers I aspire to have my children sit at a table whenever they eat. I just about win this battle for meal times (though sometimes it really does feel like a battle!) but I have to admit I have given up for snacks. My children would rather not eat than have to give up a second of play and they often don’t realise they need to re-fuel until it’s too late and the monumental melt-down that is 2 hungry children is suddenly on my hands.
This is where snack keepers become invaluable. The idea is that the pot has a lid so that whatever you have given them (in our house this means carrot sticks and grapes on a good day and dry cheerios and rice cakes when we are in a rush) stays in the pot and doesn’t get accidently tipped down the back of the sofa or all over the car. To get the snack they place their hand through a hole that has a rubberised cover to allow little hands in and out without releasing the contents. The concept is brilliant and there are several products on the market which all do much the same thing. Functionality wise there is little between them, though I have found that with many of them the rubber gets weaker and weaker with time until the snacks just fall out at the slightest shake and you have even more mess to clear up than usual! Not the case with nuby’s iMonster. 9 months in it has been through the dishwasher countless times and still remains perfectly functional. This, however, is a mere bonus as the real reason I believe this is the best snack container on the market is a simple one….. MY KIDS LOVE IT.
It looks cute and funky, the monster arms (which you use to hold it) are fun and easy for little people to grip and no matter where we take it (around the world last year to Australia and back – it was a saviour on the plane!) parents ask me where I brought it and other kids try and take it home with them! From the day we brought it it has been one of my sons favourite things and for a while it was the centre of all of this games as he would use it to store whatever treasures he could get his hands on.
In true ‘gender stereo-typing’ style, I tried to fob my little girl off with the pink flower cup (so she could be the cute girly girl I crave!) but she was very clear (she only has 5 words so far and ‘Monster’, or her version ‘Monner’ is one of them!) that this would not do and after placating the battles where she repeatedly stole my sons I gave up and they now both have the same one.
In house this really is the must have product. It isn’t expensive but for anyone who likes to feed snacks on the go (with as little mess as possible) and who’s kids are discerning enough to know a cool product when they see it this is one you won’t be able to do without!
