"Brilliant - especially for travelling…"
We live in a small two bed apartment, so had no need for a baby monitor. But at my in-laws' house, we realised we couldn't hear our 6 week old daughter at all from downstairs. It was 8pm at night and with no option of buying one, we started searching for apps and found Baby Monitor 3G.
Three years, multiple holidays and many stays at my in-laws' later and this is still the only baby monitor we use. It's brilliant - and under £5! As long as you have two devices with you (a smartphone and a tablet for example - it even works on an Apple Watch!) you can link the two of them over wifi or your data connection in under 30 seconds and you're good to go. Over the past three years, the app developers have really honed the features and we're continually impressed with it.
The only downside to it is that whichever device you use in the baby's room, you obviously don't have access too during the evening. But on the parent device, the app works in the background so you can carry on using your phone or tablet completely normally - the app simply alerts you as soon as there's any sound in the baby's room.
You can use the devices' camera and microphone to see your baby and talk to them from afar. And because it's over wifi/data rather than bluetooth, you can keep watch on your baby from anywhere in the world from any paired devices (so if one parent is travelling with work for example - I'm not suggesting you leave baby at home and go off on holiday with only a baby monitor to watch over them!).
