Lovely steam train ride from Norden (a few minutes from Corfe) to Swanage.
We were going to jump off at Corfe for a quick swoop around the village but DS (3) was more fascinated with the car park he could see rather than the castle, so we decided to plough on to Swanage and spend some time on the beach eating ice-creams instead.
Arriving by steam train was a special treat, but it did cost about £30. Stations are all decked out as per the classic steam era, a lovely touch and if you’re not travelling with little ones it would be lovely to explore them.
We were just slightly out of peak season (end June) and the day we went the steam train alternated with a diesel. We caught the first train of the day at 10.40, if you wanted to combine a trip to the seaside and a stop at the castle in Corfe you would need to keep an eye on the time. In summer trains run later, so you’d have a bit more time.
