"Great day out cheering on the competitors and soaking up the atmosphere.…"
My family of husband, me, and three children aged 9, 8 and 6 had a brilliant day out at the London Marathon. We went to a spot on the Isle of Dogs at Island Gardens at Mile 17. It was a beautiful day with the iconic backdrop of Canary Wharf and the Docklands. There was musical entertainment, a brightly coloured supportive, chatty crowd and most importantly there were the runners. We all had great fun cheering on all the runners shouting out their names and watching out for celebrities. We saw Mo Farrah which really impressed the children! Lots of fun seeing all the costumes including a runner dressed as a toilet. We took a picnic and drinks so didn't need to buy anything (apart from ice-creams) as I think all the shops/cafes etc were pretty busy. I give the day 4/5 as my youngest got bored after a while, and refreshment outlets and toilets were busy but this is only to be expected. However these aside it was a fantastic day out and very inspiring to see all the people achieving their dreams. (And of course, it's free).
