We love going to Kelvingrove. I used to go as a wee one, and now my daughter loves it too.
The collection is huge and varied, and contains a number of important pieces. My daughter loves the dinosaurs, animals, paintings and armour. The relatively recent refurbishment has been a success, with items of different types displayed together to create themed rooms. There are interactive exhibits in most rooms. Running around appears to be condoned, fortunately.
There is a good shop, with plenty of lower priced items, and a separate more grown-up gift shop, which I also find quite reasonable. They are positioned downstairs and so can be avoided is desired without much upset.
This is a great attraction to visit with child free friends, adults can walk and chat while the kids do their own thing in the vicinity. The cafe and restaurant are both good - not the cheapest, but that seems fair considering there are no entrance fees. Parking is quite limited and is often full. I'd recommend parking elsewhere and walking along. Have some coins ready as parking on and off site is metered.
For visitors, the site is handy for other West End attractions, and on good weather days can be seemlessly combined with a visit to the huge adjacent park.
A great day out, which can be revisited again and again.
