"Great free place to wander and enjoy with small children…"
The Bristol museum and art gallery has an old fashioned feel with a modern outlook. The building is dramatic with sweeping staircases and marble expanses, and has a quirky historical collection of every stuffed animal you can imagine, a gypsy caravan, a crystal collection with information on local geology and mining, and dinosaur skeletons and bones. They have a play area for very small children, and some activities such as brass rubbing or quizzes stationed around the museum. They hosted a Banksy exhibition which had queues stretching halfway across Bristol, and have retained a few elements. In the past they have also hosted the wildlife photographer of the year exhibition in January. Check ahead for special exhibitions, but the museum is basically free (donation box for your support) and welcoming. Just a short walk from Park street and the Triangle, with nice shops to explore and lots of cafes and restaurants including Browns, Boston Tea Party and Pizza Express.
