"A new revolution in parenting!…"
I bought this book as the title caught my eye. My 3 year old daughter is a bit of a 'cry baby' and I'd always thought of this as something negative. However the author turns around our conventional ideas about tears and tantrums, and explains why crying is a natural, healing process, and way to release stress and tension. She explains how we can listen with empathy to tears and tantrums, and let children get their feelings out instead of trying to control them and stop the feelings. And most importantly she explains how to stay calm during the process! Since I've been trying out the suggestions my daughter is actually crying less as she gets her feelings out completely each time! And her behaviour has improved a lot too. She's much less aggressive and happy to share her toys with everyone. That's the most amazing thing for me - that Kate Orson explains how our children's upset emotions cause their misbehaviour, and if we learn this listening technique children become relaxed and happy with less 'need' to misbehave.
