Thanks for recommending this book! it is a welcome relief from the formulaic world of reality show script-writing and vampire-imbued entertainment literature. Dear Junia is a fresh, clever and captivating page-turner with beguiling three-dimensional characters. Suspenseful and full of surprising twists and turns, honestly I can hardly wait to find out where the author takes the story next. I love the compact e-book format which enabled me to consume this delightful novel as I would a delicious five-course meal.
"A most fascinating book!…"
This book is a must read. I'm really into world literature and decided to give this one a try after spotting it on goodreads, especially as it deals with the theme of motherhood. It could be seen as controversial in some ways as it gives a frank and heart-breaking insight into how some social issues surrounding motherhood are viewed in other parts of the world - in this case, Africa. The twists and turns make it an exhilarating read although I think there could have been more and a sequel wouldn't go amiss. The book is especially appealing if you have a grasp of the intense bond between mother and child, and the consequences of such a bond being broken. The writing is clever in that it also brings to life this bond from the perspective of a young woman who is yet to fully experience it. A nuanced and surprising read for such a little-known book.
