Author: Malala Yousafzai with Christina lamb
"An essential contemporary biography…"
I received this as a birthday present. I'd assumed (wrongly) that this is children's book - it is not. It is a detailed account of the life of Malala, the girl who was shot in the head by the Taliban for her work campaigning for the education of girls. For a book in which we essentially know the 'climax', this is a tense read. Historical detail is finely woven - as a young woman now, Malala is passionate about her culture but not confident that the deep and religous divisions are surmountable (I found the depth of the entrenched views deeply chilling). Malala has a deep love for her family and this shines through too.
