Best Budget Baby Sleeping Bag 2018
Silentnight Safe Nights Review
A good-looking, quality sleeping bag with everything except the whopping price tag – what’s not to like? After our extensive testing, we’re confident Silent Night’s Safe Nights Sleeping Bag offers the best value for money.
The Silentnight Safe Nights sleeping bag doesn’t dazzle, but it doesn’t need to; it’s simply all about delivering a well-priced, safe, snug snooze. Our tester’s baby had a comfortable, and most importantly, unbroken, night’s sleep and, let’s face it, that’s what we’re all here for. It looks stylish, washed well and was hands down one of our favourite sleeping bags for quality and “feel” of materials. All round, it’s an excellent buy at a very reasonable price.

How easy it is to use day to day?
The Silent Night is designed to be super-simple. There are no fancy extras but it definitely does what it says on the tin. Our tester reported that her baby, 11 months, slept incredibly well in it and she was impressed with the quality of the bag, which she said felt soft and, more importantly, seemed solid and safe.
Getting a screaming baby into a sleeping bag at bedtime is not a highlight of any parent’s day but the Silent Night Safe Nights design made life a bit easier here. This bag’s zip does up from bottom to top, making baby-wrangling much easier when they’re overtired and wriggly, as they can’t suddenly roll or squirm and pull the zip’s pin from its box before you can do it up.
The place where sleeping bags often fall down is that they are fiddly to undo when you need to change your baby in the middle of the night. Between fighting with tiny poppers in the dark and the sudden rush of cold air on your baby’s bottom disturbing him, there aren’t many sleeping bags that allow you to change a nappy like a ninja – but this one does. Our tester did several nappy changes in the sleeping bag and, despite having to unzip the whole bag to do the changes, she reported that her baby slept soundly and didn’t wake up once – we reckon it’s that soft and cosy fabric that kept him firmly in dreamland.
The Silent Night Safe Nights has easy-to-follow instructions on the back of the packaging about choosing the right tog for the time of year, which is very usefulor tired parents. The sleeping bag itself is beautifully soft and easy to fold and store away which is great for holidays or a weekend at the grandparents’ and saves on vital suitcase space.
How does the Silent Night sleeping bag look?
The bag comes in two colourways – either pink or grey stars on a white background. The simple design is really lovely and makes the product looks quite luxurious, despite the lower-than-usual price tag. If you want more choice on design, the stylish Mori or Gro Bag have got you covered.
How does the Silent Night sleeping bag feel?
Despite the bag being so well priced, Silent Night hasn’t compromised on quality of materials. We were so impressed with the feel of the 100% cotton sleeping bag that it actually rated higher than some of the other, more expensive, sleeping bags on the market.
How do I wash the Silent Night sleeping bag?
To really put the sleeping bag through its paces, our tester washed it more than 20 times just to see if the quality suffered at all. She found that it retained its shape and colour well throughout. Our tester’s baby somehow contrived to get tomato sauce on the sleeping bag (we’ll ask no questions about where he eats his tea!) and a slight stain remained after washing but with a second wash with Vanish the stain quickly disappeared. You can also iron the sleeping bag (if you have the time and inclination).
Is the Silent Night safe?
The Silent Night sleeping bag does exactly what it’s supposed to. It’s a product that works simply and perfectly to ensure a good night’s sleep for your baby.
It is hypoallergenic, which means that it’s completely breathable, and there are no concerns about the material causing any allergic reactions on sensitive skin. Our tester’s baby suffers from eczema, so our tester often has to be really careful about the materials she puts against his skin, but this sleeping bag caused no irritation whatsoever and the hypoallergenic promise meant skin rashes were one less thing to worry about.
This bag meets the best industry requirements, to reassure parents and carers that they have the ultimate seal in safety standards. Even when we yanked at the zip (to see if it was easily damaged) it stayed in one place and didn’t break at all – and we really did give it some welly, so we were very impressed.
Top marks all round.
Is the Silent Night sleeping bag good value for money?
In a word, yes. The Silent Night Safe Nights sleeping bag completely outdid all of its competitors when it came to value for money. At 18.99 on Amazon, it is very affordable and our tester’s baby loved the feel of it. A worthy winner of the Best for Budget award.
