How long would your employer pay you if you were unable to work due to illness or injury?
If you had the misfortune to suffer a long-term illness or injury how long would your employer continue to pay your usual monthly salary? A week, a month, three months, six months? Most people have no idea what their company's sick pay policy is and wrongly assume their monthly pay cheque will continue month after month. From our own research we know that around 50% of people believe their employer would pay their full salary for six months*. The reality is very different.
Sick pay benefits today
64% of UK private companies only offer their employers Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) if they are off work for longer than four consecutive days+. This is the legal minimum they are required to offer by law. This means their employees are only entitled to £85.85 a week (in this current tax year), representing a significant drop in salary for many.
