Broadband tips and tricks

Follow our broadband basics to get the most from your broadband

TalkTalkThere are lots of things that can affect your broadband, many of which are within your control. It's worth taking a little bit of time to go through our Broadband Basics to make sure you are getting the most from your internet.

  1. Set up your router – follow the instructions and make sure you plug it into the master socket. This is the main telephone socket in your home.
  2. Location matters – both in terms of where you live and where you're using the internet in your home. If you can, get closer to your router. If the house is large or has thick walls, the wireless signal might not reach. In that case, buy a Powerline adapter, which simply plugs into your electrical sockets, sending the internet through the household electrical system.
  3. Secure everything – take advantage of the security products on offer from your broadband provider.
  4. Clean it up to speed it up – make sure your computer is up-to-date and running smoothly. Update your browser, clear out viruses and spyware and close programmes and tabs that you aren't using.
