What's on your holiday menu?

ResturantTimes are tough, budgets are tight, and the number of holidays being taken inside the UK is picking up.

Like many parents looking to save on their family holiday this year, you may be tempted to book one of the seaside, self-catered, caravan holiday deals available all around the country. If you've holidayed at a caravan park before (or even if you haven't) you could be forgiven for holding some preconceptions about the quality and freshness of food you can buy at these parks.

Traditionally, you would have probably been right to be sceptical since a lot of these holiday parks only offer a choice of either fast-food or unimaginative, pre-prepared and reheated food. Of course. you'll have the option to self-cater, and you might not mind whisking up a wholesome family feast in your caravan kitchen every mealtime of your holiday. However, most parents deserve a bit of a treat, a stress-free meal placed on the table and someone else to do the dishes.

At Haven they have a new menu brimming with meals that even the fussiest eater wouldn't turn their nose up at. Haven's Mash and Barrel restaurants stock fresh, seasonal vegetables and they're gradually introducing locally sourced ingredients and regional specialities. When you order the traditional fish and chips at Haven, you get fish that is hand-battered by a chef.

This year, their menu has a closer association with their seaside locations thanks to a generous choice of fish dishes, which form just part of the 43 main meal options. This also means that being on holiday doesn't mean forgetting the importance of healthy eating, with their new lighter lunches option as well as a selection of light bites. Best of all, treating the family doesn't mean spending a fortune, as all the meals are competitively priced. For even better value you can share a Family Deal and choose one large dish to feed a family of up to four, served with appropriate side dishes, and you'll even end up with change from a £20 note.

Haven's Mash and Barrel restaurants are continually looking to diversify their menu. Currently they are trialling a new Baby Deli menu full of interesting, organic meals for babies over seven months.

However, if you fancy a night in, cooking for the family is not a problem at Haven as whatever grade accommodation you are in, all of the kitchens are fully equipped with everything you will need to make delicious meals. Plus, if you forget any key ingredients, at every Haven there is a SPAR on site, filled with lots of yummy ingredients that are easy to prepare and sure to be a winner. This means making the family a delicious and filling spaghetti bolognese is easier than ever, with a kitchen that truly is a home from home.

With cooking this simple, you may even get a surprise and have dinner cooked for you. Why not check out the Haven blog for the delicious healthy snacks perfect for holidays, or let us know yours.
