First family holidays

First family holidays can often be daunting, especially if it's your first time with a new baby or toddler. Haven Holidays have 35 family holiday parks dotted around the coast so you won't have to travel too far in the car. They cater for all ages but, particularly when the big kids are at school, they make sure there are plenty of activities on offer for the under-fives.

Haven FunStars are always on hand at the kids clubs, running different activities every day. In Little Cubs (aimed at up to four years) they can expect to do things like Imagine with Anxious and Messy Morning craft sessions and of course, the great thing is, the FunStars are the ones that clean up the mess afterwards.

New for 2014 are a selection of interactive and sensory music-making activities with the Seaside Squad, Haven's very own fun-loving, life-sized characters. Polly's Swim a Song teaches them how to have fun in the water and Neds Tots and Tunes gets them singing and clapping. Mini Stompers will get them up and about and finally, Anxious (a fluffy pink elephant) runs a sensory morning which is a delightful session aimed at babies, where all five of their senses are awakened.

Each character also has a special birthday break with cupcake decorating and party games. The first one is Ned's and takes place on 24 March 2014 with Rory's on 5 May, Greedy's on 2 June, Polly's on 30 June, Anxious on 29 September and finally Bradley's on 13 October.

Little kids love to do what the big kids do and Haven offer a number of free dedicated sports activities, including water confidence sessions, mini archery, mini tennis, mini fencing and mini football and new for this year, mini tag rugby.

Haven parks have plenty of green space to explore. Many have nature trails and access to great coastal walks, so don't forget your baby carrier if you don't want to be restricted by a buggy. All parks have heated indoor pools and many have a paddling pool or children's area.

The evening fun starts at 6.30pm with dedicated entertainment for little ones, including Tots' Disco and character puppet shows, followed by family entertainment with games shows and live acts.

A range of accommodation is available depending on your budget. The more luxurious holiday homes are a contemporary design and have full gas central heating, double glazing and a fully equipped kitchen, including a microwave. They have a shower room and many even have an en-suite loo. Haven understands the needs of young families so if you take or hire a cot, then you can ask for one of the beds to be removed from the twin room to make space for it.

Haven parks are all self catering but they have great cafe bars offering a wide range of reasonable priced tasty meals, even your toddler can choose from a menu of organic meals by Baby Deli from just £1.50.
