Explore and enjoy the outdoors at Haven
Many of us spend most of our time sat at a desk in front of a screen, so one of the things we all look forward to on holiday is getting out and about and breathing in some fresh sea air. Haven offers a range of activities to help their guests enjoy the outdoors and connect with nature by delivering some amazing experiences for families.
New for 2014 is Nature RockZ where qualified Park Rangers lead families through a range of interactive activities.
Bushcraft is where guests can learn essential wilderness survival tips such as building shelters, lighting fires, water purification and an introduction to wild food. Go Explore takes families on mini beast safaris, pond dipping, to search and find wild birds and teaches bird food making. Get Creative by making homes for animals, including bird boxes, bug hotels and toad abodes plus grass heads, safari scrap heap and nature collages. The Coast sessions include rock pooling, sand sculptures, stone skimming and shoreline scavenging. All of this is included in the price of the holiday.
Nature RockZ will take place at Lakeland in The Lake District, Primrose Valley in Yorkshire, Haggerston Castle in Northumberland, Thorpe Park in Lincolnshire, Wild Duck in Norfolk Devon Cliffs in Exmouth and Hafan y Mor in North Wales. However you can do just the Bushcraft at Burnham on Sea in Somerset and Perran Sands in Cornwall
Everyone Outdoors are fun family sessions with organised games of rounders or volleyball. Alternatively, you can go at your own pace and make the most of the many nature trails, adventure trails and public footpaths close to the parks.
Haven work hard to protect and enhance the environment and each park holds a David Bellamy Award for conservation. So, you can expect to see butterfly gardens, lakes or nature reserves as you walk around the parks.
There are lots of ways you can enjoy the outdoors with Haven. You can make use of the all-weather multi-sports courts, playgrounds and sports fields. Enjoy a family game of adventure golf or, for the more serious golfer, you can play a round on one of the nine-hole golf courses.
You can fish on many of their parks so don't forget your fishing rod and your rod license. Freshwater fishing is available at Primrose Valley and Dolphin in Yorkshire. Coarse fishing is available at Thorpe Park and Golden Sands in Lincolnshire, The Orchards in Essex, Allhallows in Kent and Burnham on Sea in Somerset.
Having fun on the beach is not just restricted to picnics, beach cricket, building sand castles and skimming stones. Watersports are available on a number of parks. Rockley park in Poole has a boat park and sailing school and they are one of the few people that offer Royal Yachting Association courses on the sea. Devon Cliffs in Exmouth, Lydstep Beach and Kiln Park in South Wales and Lakeland in Lake District all offer a range of activities including kayaking and windsurfing. Perran Sands in Cornwall even has its own Surf School!
