Mumsnet Mum of the Year Awards

family of the yearAs we all know, motherhood is a pretty big job but, strangely, friends, relatives and society in general seem not to realise that we deserve a medal just for getting through each day.

So to redress this lamentable state of affairs, we're launching the Mumsnet Mum of the Year Awards, inspired by, and in collaboration with, National Family Week's Family of the Year competition.

We're looking for great mums - whether yourself <preen>, another Mumsnetter or some poor soul who's not on Mumsnet <perish the thought>.

STOP PRESS: Mumsnet mum of the year winner is largeginandtonic. Congratulations!

Simply tell us what makes your nominated mum special. Whether it's stories of bravery (hosting a mixed sleepover), stories of sacrifice (waiting until they're asleep for your first glass of wine), or stories that are pelvic-floor testingly funny, we want to know. Ideally, each story needs to be between 150 and 200 words. Longer or shorter entries won't be penalised (but misuse of apostrophes may be frowned upon).

Just write your story and email it to us at Please let us know:

  • your MN nickname
  • the person you're nominating

family of the yearThe closing date is 27 April 2009, when the top four entries, as judged by, will be put forward to the official judging panel.

The winning mum will be invited, along with her family, to attend the Family Week Picnic in Regents Park, London, on the first day of National Family Week (Monday 25 May 2009) for the official announcement (there'll probably be some veeps and slebs there too).

Good luck!
