Project of the month

With the arrival of a New Year, January is the best time for a fresh start, and the family bathroom is the perfect place to kick this off. From a whole new bathroom suite to new tiles or even just clear out and adding new accessories, you can begin 2013 with a fresh new look to your home.

Clearing out the clutter

The first task won't cost you anything at all, but will make the world of difference. Clear your drawers, cabinets and everything off your counters whilst keeping your must-haves, then find the most convenient place to put them. Why not buy new rattan baskets to store toiletries and keep the room clutter free, try B&Q's White 4 Drawer Rattan Tower for only £20.48.

Don't be scared of re-tiling your bathroom yourself - you can do it! And B&Q is here to help if you don't know where to start. Our practical help and advice, available online with our YouTube videos and in-store with our How to guides and You Can Do it Book. We're here to help any new or expert DIYer with practical advice and tricks of the trade. If you still need a helping hand book yourself onto one of our You Can Do It workshops available in 15 B&Q stores nationwide offering expert run classes including floor and wall tilling.

Coordinate colours and accessories

Keeping it natural by using colours such as greens, blue, browns and beiges, creates a calming environment. Co-ordinate the colour palette with accessories, bath linen and wallpaper for those finishing touches can make an extra wow factor.

Give your loo a new look

The family bathroom is for everyone so inject some style or fun into the room by replacing the old toilet seat. You could think outside the box and add some character with a colourful seat or keep it sleek and clean with just a brand new white one.

New bathroom accessories

Updating and adding staple bathroom accessories will make the room stand out. Try a new towel rail, as you can never have too many towels. Fit the towel rail near to the bathroom basin and shower units so it makes for easy access but make sure you don’t hang it over your heating vents. If you feel like a splashing out, add a heated rail like B&Q's Kudox Chrome Bar-on-Bar Towel Rail, £98.87.

For extra touches add a toiletries shelf above the sink with brand new matching accessories. B&Q sells a variety of styles to match any look of your home with prices starting from £2.98.
