Recent research by B&Q reveals that nearly half of parents in the UK worry their kids will grow up without having learned basic skills like DIY, cooking and gardening.
So, why not try out B&Q's Kids' Can Do It workshops, which take place at more than 50 stores nationwide every weekend. The workshops are aimed at 7–11 year olds and are really hands on, giving youngsters the chance to make something from scratch such as a bird box or garden planter. It's also a nice opportunity for both parents and kids to learn together.
All Kids Can Do It classes see young people learning new skills such as sawing, drilling, gluing and nailing – under the guidance of B&Q’s experts. Over 28,000 young people have already attended the classes since they launched and are the most popular DIY classes taking place at B&Q.
You Can Do It workshops
B&Q wants to make it easier for people to gain the skills and confidence to get the very best from their home improvement projects. There are currently 15 You Can Do It centres located at B&Q stores around the UK and Ireland offering more than 14 classes, from painting and wallpapering to plumbing and flooring.
The classes are really hands on and range from two to four hour sessions, all under the guidance of B&Q’s DIY experts – who will pass on tips of the trade to get the best finish for your job.
The You Can Do It centres are located in Durham, Dundee, Erdington, Swansea, Holywood (Northern Ireland), Liffey Valley (ROI), Sutton (London), Cribbs Causeway, Grimsby, Gillingham, Swindon, Meir Park, Bolton, Trafford Park (Manchester) and Coatbridge.
You Can Do It channel
B&Q is helping people around the country say 'I did that!' with the launch of their YouTube channel to help with all sorts of home improvement dilemmas, or if you're just looking for some practical tips and advice.
There are over 100 videos to choose from, each dedicated to helping you carry out projects in the home and garden, from laying garden decking and installing a water butt, to hanging wallpaper and laying laminate flooring. There are also plenty of ideas and inspiration for the home and garden including planning for a new kitchen or bathroom and a guide to garden furniture.
