Covehithe itself is a lonely place, on the way to or from nowhere. This beach is one of the loveliest and most deserted, raked by Sand Martins and backed by red sand cliffs, sand dunes and grassy fields. The outstanding natural beauty at Covehithe beach comes into view after a pleasant walk from the ruins of the church. The beach has a nature reserve, located just behind the dunes and you can walk down to Dunwich Heath and Minsmere Reserve.

Covehithe is shrinking in the face of a relentless onslaught by the North Sea, being gradually eroded away. However, the cliff exposure brings geologists and fossil-hunters, and as well as evidence of the geological formation Norwich Crag, enthusiasts have found echinoids and corals here
