Argentine Tango is an improvised dance – a bit like life – and it too requires us to learn to listen, communicate, co-operate and respond. It is a dance that is associated with vitality and sensuality, but it is also one that we can continue to dance well into our older years since it is based on walking.
In this class we study the physical techniques of balance and walking in the tango manner, both forwards and backwards and we explore this sensual partner-dance to help us understand the correlation between this technique and the mental/emotional practices of presence, connection, communication, clarity, receptivity and the meditative mind.
Can I come on my own?
Yes, whilst we are delighted if you come with a partner, you can also come on your own since, particularly at the start of the Tango journey, we will swap roles and partners in order to understand the dynamics of leading and following and this is easier to explore with a number of different people. This also allows us to become confident and to prepare for social situations where we would be expected to dance with those present and not only with our own partner.
Our Argentine Tango teacher is Nefra Canning.
