Great for picnics and running around with children, enough to keep them occupied. Great tea room. Car park gets busy, overflow parking down the road. National Trust says: Once a Dukes' retreat and a playground for princesses, Claremont has always been somewhere to escape everyday life.

Many of the great names in garden history played a part in the creation and development of the estate. Over the years Sir John Vanbrugh, Charles Bridgeman, William Kent and ‘Capability' Brown all put their own distinctive stamp on the pleasure grounds, which were part of the foremost royal residence in the country.

Today there are still many unique and unexpected features to discover, including the large turf amphitheatre, serpentine lake, grotto, Camellia Terrace and Belvedere Tower. Look out for the Thatched Cottage, a Victorian refuge filled with fun toys, games, picnic rugs and dressing up clothes.
