Street Dance is a dance style that was thought to have being evolved in New York in the1970’s, by dancers taking dance away from the studio space and into the streets for example, clubs, parks, car parks etc.
Street dance became popularised in the mainstream of the 1980’s and with all the hype found its way into the dance studios. It is now a dance style that has being commercialised and taught within studios and used within music videos.
Street dance is an improvisational style and works differently for every individual. There are techniques that can be taught such as popping and locking that were founded in the late 1960’s. Or breaking that became current in the 1970’s.
