Science in primary schools

Our Science pages cover the way the subject is currently taught in primary schools. They include basic learning at each stage of development, different ways of supporting children with science learning at home and expected end of year knowledge and attainment.

Science is currently a core National Curriculum subject and so occupies an important part in the Primary Curriculum.

In January 2011, the Secretary of State announced a major review of the National Curriculum. A full public consultation of the final drafts of the Programmes of Study is scheduled to take place in early 2012.
