#frothers Unite!! Time for change.

Welcome, Grumpy! Come on in and froth whenever you're ready

Hurrah! Welcome Grumpy

We need to round up all the people from the first thread and get them reading the blog and Facebooking and Tweeting and all that jazz. Maybe Hully could start a thread? It could be some respite from all the awful new techy stuff

Katie, I went to sleep after I posted last night but am following frothers now as both me, Chessiers, and as the__thread. Have RT'd and will write about the amazingness that is the frothers later today - have to go to speech night (well, afternoon) with DS2 in a mo.

Wow at Margaret Atwood, another who adores her. Just recently reread After The Flood and The Handmaid's Tale. ATF is scarily prophetic, she is a genius.

Margaret Atwood!!!!

KateFrothers - love the name
and blimey at Margaret Attwood!

Surestart cuts are another bloody blow - early support and intervention is the best way, that's proven, so why target these families and children?

Another crap decision for the country, and Hunty I'm sorry.

Margaret Atwood...heck.

Got proper job today.
I've got two blog posts I'm working on: one on children's and young people's mental health and the other is about education segregation.

And I had an idea last night as I lay there pondering.
Can we put a space on the blog for a Frothers Twelve days of Christmas?

On the first day of Christmas the ConDems gave to me:

an increase in child poverty

and on, and on, updating each day. It makes a quick tweet and a link to blog.

What do you think?

People on twitter are trying to get #3point5m trending today - the number of people that are affected by payday loan companies. This is a cause that is very close to my own heart, so I have been attaching the frothers tag to it too.

I remember a while ago on the radio they did a thing called 'Scotland is.....' (before some Andy Murray match I think) which was like a big list of all the things that Scotland means to people. Maybe we could do a post like that on the blog, where we all say what #frothers means to us, and someone could collate it into a post?

I like your idea KnottyLocks!

should i do a blog post that really brings together all of the cuts towards single mum's? there are loads that accumulate into a picture of totally deliberate targetting and it's ALL single mum's: those on benefits, those working on wtc and those who are HRT earners - it all gels together into a clearly ideological onslaught.

or has this already been covered really or too specific?

I had another idea for a blog post - but not by me. My MIL runs one of the about-to-close-libraries, and having seen the accounts she knows turning it into a community library is costing the council just as much as leaving it as was - possibly more long term. (certainly when you think of all the staff who know aren't working or have taken early retirement)

Could ask her to do a post about cuts that hurt the economy and community but don't save any money?

I don't think that's too specific Santa - bringing all the little pieces together is really helpful.

oh yes - ask her to do a post tewihara - that would be interesting and appeals to another generation and a different sort of community base if that makes sense. there are people not bothered by a lot of the cuts in terms of rights and benefits but who are feeling attacks on their community like this very keenly.

i will attempt to write that post then and then run it by someone to see if it's ok.

Lo

My computer hates me after all of yesterday's teccy attempts and it keeps freezing and eating itself - so no guarantees how much I can get sodding access.

Will start a thread.

Will write a post (will say what on first). Probs privatisation of Brit Plc etc?

Will speak to ds (not seen him for days). I don't think he's very frothy tbh, his is a life of ease and delight...suggestions? Oh, he is worried about tuition fees for uni, very vaguely?

All good stuff going down.

12 days BRILLIANT

Thread started here

Can someone competent go on it and do links...?

Petition against Legal loan sharking

Huzzah to AF on Twitter, am following you on both my accounts (mainly use my personal one though which is linked on the profile for my MN one if that makes sense?)

Oh my God! Margaret Atwood retweeted you lot!

Oh ok, you already knew that.. Excellent you are really getting noticed

12 Days of Christmas is GREAT

#12daysofxmas

Libraries post would be fab. If anyone has a mum/gran/dad/grandad who would like to write on how the cuts are affecting their generation, that would be great. #oapfrothers

And #juniorfrothers ie. Hully's DS.

Wonder if BIWI's student son would like to write something.

Yes, have seen the thing about loans on my timeline. Will have a look.

Ok blog post is ready (I think)

Anyone care to proof read?

very good idea to get multi generational and very multi class/background etc so we can't be accused of just being a load of benefits bludgers/middle class wives/single mums/etc - we are all sorts

(admittedly 2 generations of youngish familes... so my MIL is only mid-50s! but obviously she sees loads of OAPs at work.)

I have a slightly dilemma about my why I am on #frothersteamtech post. As in the industry DH used to work in that got cuts demolished is actually military design. Possibly not that sympathetic an area? Although his particular work was to do with making sure everything was safe. But OSA, so I can't say what he was actually doing obviously.

Oh shit, the govt propaganda is working

there was an interesting prog on Radio 4 about that this morn.

I think we baby boomers might really be the blip.

We must educate the younger lot!
