I love it on its own - I'm just not sure it goes with our surname.

Surname rhymes with Olivia (so that's out then!) But begins with an 'S'.

Your thoughts please...??

BessieBoots · 11/05/2010 09:26

I LOVE Lydia. So pretty.

BridesheadRegardless · 11/05/2010 09:30

Lydia Slivia?? No.

But Lydia is gorgeous and strangely underused.

It's not Slivia, it just rhymes with Olivia!!

Oh, bugger I might as well just put it - it's
SIVYER - pronounced SIV-EE-ER (french origin)

I love Lydia so much - so does DH, we'd be gutted to think it wouldn't go. Olivia Sivyer is just pushing it one step too far though.

VengefulKitty · 11/05/2010 09:34

I love Lydia, but a rhyming name? not sure...

VengefulKitty · 11/05/2010 09:35

x posts.

That's not too much of a rhyme. Sounds lovely to me

BunnyLebowski · 11/05/2010 09:40

I immediately think Chlamydia. Sorry

SugarSkyHigh · 11/05/2010 09:43

I ADORE the name Lydia. It is completely beautiful and there are not many of them out there at the moment! DD has a friend age 12 with this name, but I don't know of any others at all. Wasn't there a TV program a long time ago called "Love for Lydia"?

Ooh - never heard of "Love for Lydia"! I'll google it...

  • Hadn't thought of Chlamydia...
Magaly · 11/05/2010 10:32

I love the name Lydia. My son was going to be either Sylvie or Lydia.
Does your sur name also end in 'ia'? That doesn't sound great. Lydia Solivia?

Magaly · 11/05/2010 10:34

Hmmm Lydia Sieve eee Ay.

That is not great. Would advise against.

But if it's Lydia Sieve eee ER

That is much better. That would get a yes vote.

It ends in 'er' like pet'er', or lyd'ia'... not 'ay'...

Siv-ee-er

The two names do sound the same at the end.

oceryo · 11/05/2010 11:26

Lydia is a lovely name but yes, the ending is very similar to your surname.

Hullygully · 11/05/2010 11:27

i love it and on my list if i have another dd

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/05/2010 18:28

I love it, but it does sound odd with your surname. I think that names ending in a are all going to sound a bit odd, especially 3 -syllable ones

Caro1302 · 11/05/2010 20:41

DD is Lydia and we always get complimented on her name, except my mum who hates it.

I think it goes ok with your surname.

Wholelottalove · 11/05/2010 21:15

I love Lydia. In fact, I am putting it on my shortlist I think it sounds slightly odd with your surname, but notso much it would be a deal breaker if you absolutely love it IMO.

ronx · 11/05/2010 21:16

Lydia is gorgeous!

Shaz10 · 11/05/2010 21:18

Have you met Lydia?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I do like the name however!

Hulababy · 11/05/2010 21:18

Lydia is quite a popular name round here; know at least 4 or 5 under 8s called Lydia. (If that bothers you)

Not sure on the first name and surname having the ia sound. They are very similar soundin to me and not keen on rhyming names personally.

kittywise · 11/05/2010 21:31

I've got one, we call her Kitty though!

stleger · 11/05/2010 21:35

I have a Lydia - I loved 'Love for Lydia'. (Next door neighbours have a granddaughter called Kitty).

Casmama · 11/05/2010 21:40

Lydia - Teapot - maybe just a scottish thing but I wouldn't - sorry.

Ineedsomesleep · 11/05/2010 21:42

BunnyLebowski I was just going to type
