Jasmine or Seren?

My first daughter’s name is Saffron and daughter number 2 is on her way, so we would like a name that works well with it.

We’ve narrowed it down to two names; Jasmine or Seren, but interested to know what your preference would be?

Thanks in advance!

HarpyValley · 29/06/2023 00:26

Saffron and Seren sound a bit too samey and sing-songy together, so I’d go with Jasmine.

Allchangename354 · 29/06/2023 00:28

Jasmine, though I like both

Thereoughttobeclowns · 29/06/2023 00:29

Both are nice but Saffron and Jasmine are too twee and Saffron and Seren are too samey.

Thanks for your thoughts 😊 . Any recommendations for names that might go?

Fraaahnces · 29/06/2023 00:57

I adore Seren, but agree that it could be a bit too samey with Saffron. How about something like Juniper? Jasmine is really over-done. (I also have teaching-related issues with that name.) Then there are the other flower/plant names like Daisy, Willow, Rosie, Marguerite, Lily, etc. I do prefer Juniper as the others (bar Marguerite) are pretty popular too.

Thank you for the suggestions. Juniper is nice. Out of curiosity, what teaching related issues do you have with the name Jasmine?

I love Jasmine and Seren! And Saffron. What lovely name taste you have.

Saffron and Jasmine sounds great to me.

aww thank you 😊

scrivette · 29/06/2023 08:06

How would you pronounce Seren?

Seren as in Serendipity or Sir-Wren which I believe is the Welsh pronunciation (but may be wrong).

Saffron and SirWren pronunciation sound lovely together.

Xeren · 29/06/2023 08:22

Ok, you are my twin! Jasmine and Seren are my two fave names for girls (alas I have a boy!).

And Saffron would be my alias if I were ever to become a world renowned author.

My husbands Welsh and he’s family pronounce it as ‘Seren’-dipity. Where my family are English and pronounce it like Serun, so like Seven but with an R. I guess that’s my only worry with the name Seren, all the potential different ways of saying it. 😆

Thank you. Saffron does seem to go nicely with Jasmine. 😊

Fraaahnces · 29/06/2023 09:17

@AshleaE Just a couple of girls whose attitudes and behaviours put me off the name. It’s really, really difficult for teachers to find kid’s names that don’t remind them of someone else. I didn’t even teach for long, but there were a LOT of Jasmines and Lilies stomping about at the time.

Teehee. Thank you. I love that we have similar thoughts! What did you name your boy ?? 😊

Vexxa · 29/06/2023 09:20

I think Jasmine is beautiful and works well with Saffron.

LulooLemon · 29/06/2023 09:22

Both lovely. I would choose Jasmine.

salamithumbs · 29/06/2023 09:24

I actually knew two sisters growing up called Jasmine and Saffron! I think they sound nice together

TomatoSandwiches · 29/06/2023 09:26

I worked with a beautiful lady from St Thomas called Seron, I thought it was a lovely name.

@Fraaahnces i totally agree with you. Like you say I think most people have a few names which they associate with others that they would never use. Teachers probably more so than others. I think Jasmine is finally making its way out of the top 100, so less people are being called that now, but as you say past experiences can count for everything.

blueskyed · 29/06/2023 09:46

I have a jasmine. I often get nice comments about her name. I love the name and only really have nice connotations with it.

KirstenBlest · 29/06/2023 09:57

@scrivette , SERR-enn.

@AshleaE , Jasmine is lovely, not keen on Seren

DramaticBananas · 29/06/2023 10:01

How about Serena? It flows nicely as Saffron and Serena.
