Klelia?

No.

I have to agree with this! I'm European and know 2 Clelias, it's really not that unusual or out there.

God forbid anyone suggests a name outside the top 100 on these boards.

Anyway OP, I like it, though I would stick with the C spelling.

Both aren't great, OP.

@boysmuminherts , how do you get Klee eye la?

It's pronounced more or less as it's written. Several of us have explained.

Celia is a lot less regular phonetically.

never heard of this name..... how is it pronounced?
Klee lee a ? Klay la? Klee eye la? it's very confusing!

It is not the same. Though neither are nice sounds.

Terrible. Sounds like someone can't say Celia properly.

Sounds like a Pokemon.

@SirQuintusAureliusMaximus I absolutely disagree. Yes things like the name Myra for example crops up sometimes and people who are too young or from another country might not make an association that a lot of people in the UK would. However, even then, all it takes is imparting the information to the person - not the sneering and carrying on. There seems to be this assumption on here that people are using unusual names to stand out or because they think they're all that rather than because that name is perfectly standard to them - it's the assumptions that are mindboggling here. It's nothing to do with bekind. I think you're quite confused about that. It's about not being rude or sneery.

Camilla sounds more like Chlamydia than other names but weirdly people don't go on and on and on because Camilla is very well known so people aren't looking for the association, and also it's quite upper class, I'd venture, which always seems to help for some weird reason. Lydia is another very commonly used name that could be argued to be closer to the sound of Chlamydia. As that's the only std I can think you're all referring to. I think it's just because Clelia is more unfamilar that people are going on this way. It doesn't sound anything like STDS like gonorrhea etc. That's just ridiculous. There are a billion "lia" names popular right now. Again, it's just lack of familiarity I'd be prepared to bet.

Mumsnet constantly suggests names like Lydia or Astrid, which could have far more trouble in the playground if it came to it. But they are both nice names. I doubt that many people do have trouble in the playground with those names.

Noone sees a problem with the name William these days or Thomas despite the slang association. People are going oh she's be called Smellier Clelia. Really? But Ellie is far easier to turn into Smellie Ellie if you want to and yet mumsnet bemoans the zillions of Ellie's about at the moment. A whole generation seems to be having no trouble in the playground by being called Ellie.

Clelia/Klelia is a far nicer name than many suggested such as Celia or Delia or Camilla and is nicer than Cloellia that people are suggesting. It takes a minute or two to work out how it sounds but once you do it's a pretty sounding name and fairly easy to pronounce. It's just unusual in the UK. But I doubt it will be in the future as lots of names commonly used abroad are becoming more standardly heard here and people just think "oh like Klelia at school" or whatever.

No, we are not coming from the Uk but we live here for many years and we intend to live for the years to come (touch wood).

The name Klelia wouldn’t bat an eyelid in the county we come from, it may even get compliments, hence I am asking how it would be perceived in the Uk.

Ah, in that case, go for it - if it's 'appropriate' to your own heritage/country, I wouldn't see any issue, apart from the fact that it isn't necessarily the easiest word to say (slightly tongue-twisty); but then, some people could even have those issues with a common name like Lily.

Constantly comparing to genital diseases because you've never heard something before - what are we - 12? I think this forum is getting into a trolly kind of place. People may ask advice on names, but they don't need this sort of thread it's just nasty.

You are the one that needs to grow up! The very purpose of these name threads is precisely to flush out the kind of things that occur to a broad section of the public so that if nasty associations are present the person considering the name can be aware of them and take them into account.

It's about an informed choice so that if a name is likely to provoke teasing or life long thoughts or comments, you can be aware of it in advance.

There is zero point in someone posting
"I'm thinking of calling my son Adolf"
and posters being all saccharine sweet #BeKind and saying "what an unusual name" or "not quite to my taste".

What you need -really need - is people telling it like it is. "Don't do it. He will have Nazi and Hitler jokes for the whole of his life and probably face a lot of subliminal prejudice.".

Fine if you you like a name, consider the views of others about likely teasing, mental associations or ugliness of a name and reject them. But whinging on an open forum about people giving genuine responses on their thoughts about a name that you don't like- where the reason for posting is to ask for opinions on the name - is just silly.

Definitely C over K for almost all names where there's a choice.
I genuinely find it hard to say but I really like Cloelia as that extra syllable just makes it easier for me...

OMG that's too like clitoris

I think it's the two l's for me which makes it feel clunky. Like you're trying to say clearier which would obv be awful grammer.

But this is why I didn't put my sons name up for debate, because I knew what kind of responses I'd get for Castiel. Whereas in reality the closest people get to telling me they dint like it is "og that's interesting" or now they'll say they weren't sure but now it suits him.

So @Nescafegoldblend if you like it, use it. In rl people will learn to pronounce it, there's options for derivatives if you want, and anyone rude enough to be rude to your face don't deserve your or your child's time.

Thanks @Passerillage , CLEE-uh-na sounds fine. I stand corrected.

Clelia/Klelia is growing on me too.

There is no board I find more annoying and ignorant than the baby names board. Klelia is a name used in other countries and I think it is rather beautiful. People generally make an effort when they meet you to pronounce and learn other names properly. I am foreign and generally find people pronounce my difficult name well. Only on mums net do people purposefully mispronounce and offend names.

But, assuming that OP is British and lives in the UK (apologies if this isn't the case, OP), it's a very odd choice. It's nothing like somebody having a name from their own country/culture who then later settles in a different country.

Dikshit is a not uncommon name in India; Avishag is an Israeli/Hebrew name; Nicola and Andrea are common names for boys in Italy - any of these would still seem a very odd choice for a British child, born to British parents, who is being brought up in the UK.

I would say CLEE-uh-nah, I think, but it would probably vary a lot around the country.

That's a better name.

My LG’s bestie is called Khlelia. It’s a lovely name and no issues with how to say it.

the one I know is a lovely girl so I think it’s a lovely name.

Exactly this. There are such narrow minded attitudes here. Just because you are unfamiliar with something it doesn’t make it objectively bad, worthy of ridicule or (Mumsnet’s favourite) comparable to an STD.

@Passerillage , oh all right, not obvious without the fada. Is it Clee-O-na or Cleena?
