  • 100g icing sugar

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 2 tbsp golden syrup

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 2 tsp ground ginger

  • 1 eggs

  • 175g mixed brown and white sugar

  • 1 box writing icing

  • 350g plain flour

  • 100g butter cold

  • 1 lemon juice


  1. Heat oven to 180C and line two baking trays.
  2. Mix flour, spices and baking powder.
  3. Rub in the butter till the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.
  4. Stir in sugar.
  5. Mix in egg and syrup.
  6. Squeeze into dough, roll out and cut into house shapes.
  7. Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Leave to cool a little then transfer on to wire rack.
  9. When cool, cover some of the biscuits in white icing (mix icing sugar with a little lemon juice).
  10. Then, add roofs, windows and doors using writing icing.

Handy Hint

Make sure the white icing is completely dry before going over it.

    This recipe tasted gorgeous when my sister made it the other day (even if she added extra ginger to it!) but unfortunately she never got to ice it though as when she was lifting the panels of the baking tray they were welded on and most of them broke as a result. She was disappointed that she didn't get to make her gingerbread house, but at least it tasted nice!
