  • 1 splash oil

  • 1 pinch sea salt

  • 1 bunch asparagus

  1. Gently bend and snap the bottoms off your asparagus (never cut them), and put them in a shallow dish.
  2. Drizzle with oil, and agitate the dish gently to get a nice even coating.
  3. Sprinkle with a good grinding of salt from your salt grinder (never use running salt).
  4. Pop them on the BBQ or grill and keep turning until they are slightly charred on all sides.
  5. Serve.

Handy Hint

If you put the asparagus in a shallow dish and then add the oil and salt, you don't have to use your hands to coat them, just gently agitate the dish back and forth.

I do mine in the oven alongside a roast for the last 10 minutes or a bit longer. I sprinkle with grated cheese (cheddar or any hard cheese I have in) and I use oil, but miss out the salt as the cheese is often salty enough. I flip them over after 5 minutes.

This is a totally delicious way to cook asparagus on the BBQ, and a good choice for your vegetarian guests, as BBQs can be very meat dominated. I'm aware that it uses a lot of salt, so it's more adult BBQ food, than for children. But hey, I think the asparagus lovers amongst us would rather keep it that way!
