  • 8oz brown sugar

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 2 tbsp flour

  • 4 tsp mixed spice

  • 10oz mixed dried fruit

  • 3 tbsp ovaltine

  • 3 large eggs

  • 2lb stale bread

  • 6oz butter (or margarine)


  1. Break the bread into cubes and soak in water or milk for 2 hours.
  2. Squeeze out the excess liquid and stir well to break up the lumps, melt the butter/margarine, add to the bread with all the other ingredients.
  3. Pour into a large greased tin and bake at 180C/Gas Mark 4 for about 1-1 1/2 hours.

Handy Hint

Good recipe to use up any left over bread or freeze the leftovers until you have enough.
